6-5-24: A recent commenter said "why don't you show us a shelf" and I just got the courage to do it just now so here's a video to that purpose!

James Thurber's memoir made me urinate, publicly embarrassing me only in the eyes of those who had no idea what I was reading.

Omg so much shelf tour content. I'll be watching these all week!

In order to get through all of these chaotic shelves before the move / hopefully massive book rearrangement, I'll need to film like two of these a day lol

Hold on to Aristophanes at all costs! The man was a genius! Always good to meet another Soseki fan. I am a completist regarding Japanese novels and have read Kokoro, The Gate, and The Grass Pillow. Kokoro was my introduction to Soseki and I recommend it. Thurber is also worth your attention, especially My Life and Hard Times. You can trace his influence on writers like Jean Shepard, Garrison Keillor, and David Sedaris. Try one of his serious short stories like "A Friend to Alexander." Even when Thurber is funny, he's serious.

Thanks as always for watching, Donald! I haven't even heard of The Gate or The Grass Pillow. Now I must read them (after Kokoro of course). David Sedaris I have read and liked. I've read about 3 of his books. He was a real balm in high school, when reading was more of a chore. Finally D. Sedaris came into view and reminded me that reading should make the reader feel good and laugh. Jean Shepard and Garrison Keillor I have NEVER read! I wonder what their best books are? Lastly, thanks for the "A Friend to Alexander" recommendation. I will seek it out.

I have only read short stories by Shepherd and Keillor. For Shepherd, get Wanda Hickey's Night of Golden Memories and In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash (the basis for A Christmas Story). For Keillor try Lake Woebegone Days, Life Among the Lutherans, and Leaving Home. Keillor has written novels, but I have read none of them. Both men had careers in radio, creating mythological communities in Minnesota and Indiana.
