Fun fact, the place in Spain where Shell Cordovan gets its name from is Córdoba, in Andalusia, in the South. It was so famous for high quality leathers, that it also was the root word for ‘Cordwain’, a high quality goatskin, from which ‘Cordwainers’, or new leather shoemakers get their name.

Awesome to have another thin shell option around other than the Italian stuff. Ordering Shinki was always ridiculous because of how thick it is. Easily the most * generous * use of the word "4oz" I've ever seen. 😂

Love this! Makes me want to make one for my smart watch for when I go traveling. Such a smart idea! Especially when some airport employees can be so cavalier with the luggage... 😬 Also, because you guys were asking about the centuries... the 800s A.D. were the 9th century, the 700s were the 8th century, the 1800s were the 19th century, etc. It's because the 1st century A.D. was the year 0-99, so you always do the century + 1 to figure out which century it was. Hope this helps!

Actually, there was no year 0 so the first century was 1-100. The centuries end with the year XX00, ie the eighteenth century ended with 1800, the twentieth with 2000, etc.

5mm usually for almost everything - watch straps, bracelets, etc I'll go smaller but it depends on the scale of the piece

4 or 3.85 ideal, some use bigger, but fancy crafter uses as low as 2.7mm.

Novice question: You made the watch case strap from leather, with the thumb/finger grip loop, and the ~2" slightly raised piece for it to feed into (essentially locking the watch case). You mentioned not wanting to use rivets/snaps bc it can damage a watch when pressing to snap it together. Is there any reason not to use either Velcro or magnets to secure the watch case? I can see magnets being too thick to embed in the leather (or messing up a digital watch?), making the case awkward and bulky. And Velcro would probably look a little tacky with nicer leathers. But are those possible options for a design like this despite the small size?
@Thouhand.2 жыл бұрын
You pretty much answered your own question already. Velcro would look cheap and wear out relatively quickly, and magnets can absolutely screw up an analog watch as well as a digital one. You could use hardware and cover the interior exposed bits with skived leather or a liner, but that would also add to the thickness.

Never saw a watch pouch and exists. Even stopped wearing a watch in 2000, when already had a mobile phone. I had a Tissot watch and gave it to my brother, which was I bought around 1000$, before and later bought Casio electronic watch(since '80s).

I have been a fan of Master Contact Cement for years. A cobbler told me about it. I found that Barge had a tint to it and didn't like it because it stained some leathers. I am too sloppy for my own good. Master's is clear and comes off instantly with a piece or crape(?) eraser. I suppose that contact cement is a personal choice or preference.

I’ve got an idea, let’s see what you think. Would it be ridiculous if you could make a case for sunglasses? I have a set of prescription RayBan’s that case is plastic man-made and it’s beginning to crack however the inside of the case is shaped for the sunglasses. I imagine the the case would have to unstitched and the inside removed and used in the new case. What are your thoughts, really curious to know.
