Joran Prins There's these two pieces connected with a rubber band. One's attached to the slide, the other's connected with the trigger. When you pull the trigger, 2nd piece moves with the trigger, creating tension on piece 1. It can't move, however, because the slide is locked. When the trigger's fully pulled, piece 1 unlocks the slide, causing the blowback from piece 2 flinging itself towards piece 1.

It might be the case here but in real guns the plate that pushes up the bullets pushes up the slide lock preventing the slide from returning.
