I had the privilege of working with many of Brent's OIM's as an Emergency Response and Crises Management instructor at RGIT. We did all the OIM assessments, plus Fire-team training for those guys. A great bunch of characters, and am still in touch with one or two them even today. The end of an era I guess.

I’ve hated my experience for over 30 years I was on the Charlie and Bravo over 30 years ago I’ll never forget climbing down the leg to the gas tight floor with a BA set to maintain the instruments…. Shitting my self coz if anything happened top side you were 15 mins up the vertical ladders fighting the deluge that would inevitably and automatically been set off… so we all knew in an emergency it was most likely a one way trip That’s why they sent us young daft youngsters down there😉 Watching this video was very cathartic and redeeming 😘

@PeterJones-sj3uw7 ай бұрын
I was one of those young men all those years ago and, like yourself, who spent some time on the charlie. I was terrified at the prospect of anything going wrong on any of the levels above...from that gas tight floor was a canny climb to the top of the leg. In the video it's rather ironic that he toasted Brent for "all the production people" as I recall they were, to a man, mostly tossers, and when push came to shove, lacking the backbone to speak up on safety matters. But heyho they had their Shell pension to think about! Then there was the "black listing" of many of us after the strike action....but some good memories of the late 80's and early 90's of AMEC and Vauldale,some realy sound guys in the crew.

I worked on the Charlie in the 80's and 90's, for various contractors, as I recall there was a sign as you came off the helideck announcing "Welcome to Shell..." underneath someone had written "we take the hair off a dead man's balls" that sums up Shell far better than any public relations video, impressive though this one is.

Now the moment you all been waiting for time to scrap Charlie. Charlie like Delta and Bravo is made of concrete so removing it will be easy compared to Alpha where they scrapped the whole rig including the jacket. For this lift the Pioneer Spirit will come under it and cut the legs then 32 hydraulic rams will close and lift the rig off its legs. Once the rig is removed the boat will do a 180 turn and four stainless steel covers will be placed over the legs and a hose will be attached to fill them with sand and concrete while pumping out any oil that remains inside. Once the legs are secure the Pioneer Spirit departs for Glasgow Scotland where the rig is transferred to the Iron Lady. the Iron Lady then heads down the Forth River to Harpole and the rig is sold for scrap bringing an end to 4 decades of oil production on the North Sea.

I have commented already on how little you know about this project. I don’t know if it’s attention seeking but you really need to get your facts straight. Charlie will not be going to Glasgow and the Forth river does not end up in Hartlepool. The legs do not get filled with anything other than seawater and are capped with concrete covers not steel.

I visited Brent C a few times while it was being built. I remember it as an amazing hive of chaotic activity. To be frank, it wasn't the safest of places! I wonder if the aerials I put on the top of one of the modules were there at the end. Putting them up there was a frightening experience. Lying on my stomach on the roof in a howling gale, lashing rain and hail, a soldering iron in my hand on a massive extension cable (yes!) and limited time in case I was going to miss the helicopter!

Hi Owen a lot of people look back through rose tinted glasses and forget about the NRB, the anti trade union mindset, remember the early days of the OILC!! The strikes, the intimidation, the blacklisting of people like Jimmy Byrne and others. John Hendy QC and the case in the High Court....many of the "company men" looking after themselves and not giving a jot about their fellow workers. Strange that none of this and more is not mentioned in this video. Not sure what de Leeuw or Deidre Mitchie had to do with the Brent field but my goodness they seem to be important now.

Shell could save itself all stupid advertising if their gas stations were just a little more customer-friendly. Unfortunately, there are always annoyances at your petrol station chain. It is not a company that deserves the sympathy of motorists. It is noticeable that other companies such as OMV, Esso, BP, Agip etc. are much more customer-friendly, as everyone can easily see for themselves.

To be honest, wouldn't it be better for energy companies to directly produce eco-friendly gasoline rather than electric vehicles? I think you can make it. Even if the charging time of an electric vehicle is reduced, it is likely to break down, the electricity may be cut off, and even if a driverless car is made, the computer is not secure, but it is a car security problem..

How far back do you want to go? People have been burning oil for light and heat since prehistoric times - only then much of the oil burned was from whales caught and slaughtered. It requires no intelligence whatsoever to sit in 2021 surrounded by technology and wealth that you yourself are enjoying to access the internet and post your inflammatory remarks without the feintest idea whatsoever what facilitated that technological development. The holier-than-thou want us all to return to living in caves and foraging for berries, but don't seem to realise that people with such ideological mentality would last weeks if not days in the wild competing with others who will do whatever is necessary to survive.
