I posted the below in a reddit post about the new show Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage querying whether Sheldon (Ian Armitage) will appear in the new series at all but it is also relevant here: "If he does it will be a season finale moment which is fine. This show isn't about Sheldon its about Georgie. The scenes with Georgie visiting his father's grave solidify this. Despite the ups and downs of their relationship over the years, Georgie is very much his fathers son (he is the the eldest after all). While Sheldon may be a genius in a technical sense, his abilities to process emotions especially after such a hard hit in life are very limited & almost child-like. He is running and suppressing his emotions, which TBBT shows us has significant consequences for Sheldon in the long term. It gives greater depth to his decision to move far away from his family, it is not just a decision based on his intellectual prowess. He is alone (until he meets Leonard years later) and he really doesn't start to process his emotions about George Sr until after Howard's mother's death in TBBT and meeting Amy. The narration of YS shows us that Sheldon only really starts dealing with his loss head on when he gets married & has his own children & starts to reflect upon his life, and a lot of this is because of Amy Farrah Fowler and her love for him (and also his friends, particularly Leonard). This is some 15-20 years later. He harbors the pain for a long time, and it seriously affects his personality. His friends in TBBT only put up with his arrogance and irritating idiosyncrasies due to the fact they see through it and know he is ultimately a good person, which ironically is the part of him derived from his parents (despite Sheldon's internal denial of this). Georgie however, is proving that his father taught him well. He is emotionally mature for his age and he possesses George Sr's toughness in the face of hard circumstances.. He is manning up when it matters most as his father always did. He is of course struggling with George Sr's death as is the whole family, but he is the glue holding them together at the moment and he is a good kid who is trying to put positivity first, as his Dad would have wanted. He has a deep sense of the importance of family which his father instilled in him, and the show is portraying this admirably. He is George Sr (just a younger version of him) and he is picking up the pieces as best he can given his situation (and he is doing it well compared to everyone else in his family at the moment). Will Sasso's character is great in this respect. Jim McAllister can see George Sr in Georgie and is stepping up to be a de-facto father figure for him as he needs it right now. All the fathers in YS clearly liked & respected George Sr as he was a solid good family man (also it's Texas i mean who doesn't have respect for the football coach). I like the show and it's portrayal of significant loss and the realities of moving on from such a hit. TBBT also shows us that Georgie, perhaps unknowingly, reaps his rewards for his actions as he really does become the most successful in his family, emotionally and financially. What would be cooler than a Sheldon appearance would be, perhaps a series of unconnected events in Georgie's life arises in the coming shows that are out of Georgie's control/knowledge that vaguely hints that George Sr may, in some respect, still be out there somewhere in an existential sense assisting his son from beyond the grave. Nothing to obvious or cheesy but perhaps something the viewer can grasp but not Georgie. This could be tied in with Mary's faith in her beliefs, and also show that Sheldon's belief in science, whilst being able to explain most things in life, can't explain everything. The writers have a lot to work with here as every family experiences this type of loss at some time or another in their tenure. It's just a fact of life, which the show makes very clear."

This is one of my least favorite scene in the entire series. I hated it! Georgie bullied Sheldon, who clearly has issues, be it OCD, sensory integration disorder or whatever. And Georgie plays the victim because when George Sr. died, he, who was a grown adult by then, had to put his big boy pants on and help his family. Pathetic! Shame on Mary for saying should wouldn't go to Sheldon's wedding unless he got his bully brother, who Mary herself called "dumb as soup" and complained was dating a wh0re, to come to the wedding that was tangible evidence of Sheldon's growth and should've been celebrated with people he wanted around him, not his bully. Though it's not in Sheldon's character to truly stand up to his mom if it's not science based, Sheldon should've said, "If you want to miss the biggest day of my life, fine, stay in Texas... And when we have grandchildren, you can stay home for that too. This is mine and Amy's wedding, not yours, and if you do love me enough to respect that, you don't need to be there. TOMMY KELVIN GOMEZ JIMENEZ u do realize that not everyone can understand a Texas accent..right?? He wouldn’t be making a lot of money if people couldn’t understand what he’s saying..hence the reason why he toned the accent down, and besides he grew up, and sometimes even accents can fade away. Edit: And just to be clear I’m not saying that his accent faded because he grew up

I'm so glad they chose Jerry O'Connell as Sheldon's older brother, i couldn't have wished better. He is so good in that role. I'm at the 11'th season, i hope we can see him again.
@BillinHungary3 жыл бұрын
@@싸넬동지-7성담배 I agree - it wasn't going to be a recurring role, and yet they went out and found an actor who could actually verbalize a lifetime of sacrifice and caring for Sheldon in a way that would make it believable for Sheldon to apologize. The scene was well-written, but Jerry O'Connell nailed the part.

“He said never patch did you ever listen” shows Sheldon acknowledging his brothers expertise in his field of tires. The choice is yours. Choose wisely... I never forget!"

Mary shielded him from that, and that's part of the problem.

Literally me and my brother had a reconciliation like this a couple years ago. It felt good to finally clear the air and just let go of all our grievances. My brother wasn't as far on the spectrum as me, but he never let me think my disability was a disability. He just told me, like my dad, that I just see the world differently. I was at his wedding - not his best man mind you, but it meant the world to watch him get married and I even gave a wonderful speech that he and his wife loved. I love my brother and I will fight for him. He may not have been the best, but he was genuine and he loves me. And that's all I can really ask for

I feel like Georgie taking care of his family after their dad’s death is what leads to his and Mandy’s divorce. He’s stretched to thin and Mandy is also stressing with CeeCee and missing her husband, they will bottle it up tho bc neither wants to talk about and they think it’s for the best until it breeds resentment and all blows up in their face

In Sheldon’s defense, they actively hid the struggles from him. Especially for someone like Sheldon who doesn’t do well with social cues, it seems a bit unfair to get mad at him for not knowing.
@swan_909 Жыл бұрын
Blame Mary for that. Missy and Georgie and George didn't coddle him like Mary. Considering sheldon is an adult now, the responsibility for his own actions lies on him. I would understand not picking things up when you are a kid but as an adult that excuse doesn't stick. He has friends, girlfriend and you are telling me he couldn't figure out that losing her husband would be rough for Mary Missy and Georgie? Also taking first step to patch things up with Georgie doesn't require social skill. That just requires love and no ego.
@leon4000Ай бұрын
@@swan_909You'd be surprised how many adults have that conclusion. Sometimes people go through life with what they think they know, and their immaturity makes that stuff seem fact as much as possible. He was coddled enough that he had a superiority complex that didn't always match his intellect or rather his maturity and common sense at times. A person could go their entire lives believing that their family will always be fine and as such, can live with that assumption based on their own perception and of events they took considerably. Excuse or no excuse. People can conflate their version of what they believed happened with their family with the real history of what happened. It's very common, especially when people like Sheldon tries hard to grow up, but lacks enough maturity to do so. His mom is partly to blame for any consequences that occurred when she favored Sheldon to be the responsible child.
