Yeah, The NY Times article was one-sided; it was as if the reporters were trying hard to fit their narrative rather than conduct honest an investigation. They could easily have found dozens and dozens of former performers who were positive about Shen Yun, but they seemed to focus entirely on nine former disgruntled performers. Shen Yun performers love traditional Chinese culture, but they aren't afraid to expose current human rights abuse in China, BUT the NY Times has a history of downplaying and even denying the Chinese Communist Party's brutality particularly towards practitioners of Falun Gong. To me, the fact that Ms. Didi Tatlow, a former NY Times writer, was shut down by her NY Times editors when trying to cover forced organ harvesting of Falun Gong practitioners - the crime of the century, in my opinion - clearly reveals the lack of professionalism NY Times demonstrates.

Honestly I am still waiting for an investigative journalist that is not related to the CCP or Falun Gong to write an article about this. Cause my view of Falun Gong, having some of my spiritual teachers being ex-Falun Gong members, is that the group is wrongfully persecuted and the belief system is something that is orthodox, no where near heretical. If I want to nitpick is the Falun Dafa system, when practiced with intent and sincerity, results in mystical powers a bit to fast in comparison to other spiritual belief systems such as Kundalini, Kriya, or the basic Pranja that is talked about in Buddhist scriptures. My only gripe with the group in modern times is they are going a bit too political in my opinion. There are good articles in Da Qi Yuan newspaper, but there are also quite a bit of propaganda and conspiracy theories in there as well. In other words, I have mixed feelings about the group as a whole.

IMO Shenyun has two sides. They were initially lead by Li hongzhi as a very peaceful and presents a serene. They were the victims of CCP. However, after many of them were arrested after the 80s and 90s, most of the falun believers fled to the US. It’s understandable they developed a vendetta against the CCP since they were forced to give up their freedom to the CCP for just the sake of being too influential in China. However, after they came to the US, they started developing into an extreme hatred towards CCP. Which is Understandable. Yet personally I don’t agree with their stance and ideology, yet I know they have their reasons to hate the CCP as they’re simply the victims.

Let me preface by saying that I am no fan of the CCP. I frankly hate the CCP and hate all forms of nationalism, including Chinese nationalism. I am rooting for Taiwanese independence and the re-liberalization of China (i.e., the reversal of what Xi Jinping has done to the country). That said, this video is not being candid about Shen Yun’s affiliations. I frankly don’t care about the Falun Gong’s beef with the CCP. I typically root for the underdog, which would certainly be the Falun Gong, but credible sources suggest they have some beliefs which frankly make the CCP look rational by comparison. But moreover, I care about my own country’s politics. And the fact is that the Falun Gong, in association with its publication The Epoch Times, has decided to cast its lot with Trump and his brand of conspiracy theories and demonization of Democrats and liberals. Sorry, but that’s bullshit. Americans across the political spectrum oppose the CCP, so for them to pick a side and sow division and hatred among Americans by indulging in right-wing propaganda is frankly disrespectful to the country that graciously took them in. I had actually purchased front-row seats to see Shen Yun, but after I researched them and learned of their connections to The Epoch Times and their institutional support of Trump and right-wing propaganda, I demanded a refund and will never support them, even if we share a mutual enemy in the CCP. It was a huge mistake for them to pick a side and alienate / demonize half of Americans. To the narrator of this video (sorry, I don’t know your name, even though I’ve watched you since the Off the Great Wall days), this is nothing personal against you, but this group’s decision to play sides in domestic American politics will inevitably have consequences. Trump is hardly any better than the CCP, and siding with Trump over the CCP is like siding with the Soviets over the Nazis, or vice versa. Sometimes, two opposing forces are both wrong, and the only decent choice is to oppose both.

It's sad you didn't watch it to form your own opinion. Because it has nothing to do with politics. Shen Yun is a high quality performance that shows the beauty of China. @@Adventures_in_the_north I've done plenty of research-certainly more than anyone who just watched a Shen Yun show. I know that the people behind Shen Yun are the same people behind The Epoch Times, and I've seen enough The Epoch Times ads to know I don't want to financially support the people behind it. I've also read content on The Epoch Times and don't care to financially support a religious cult whose primary audience is far-right lunatics.

@@Adventures_in_the_north Apparently KZbin removed my comment. How frustrating. I won't re-type it all, other than to say that I've done AMPLE research-far more so than 99% of the people watching Shen Yun. I know that the people behind Shen Yun are the same people behind The Epoch Times; this is widely known and reported. I don't care how nice the dancing is if I'm ultimately funding a pro-Trump cult. And yes, I've read The Epoch Times. They make an effort to present themselves as just a regular newspaper, but if you click around enough and especially if you see their ads and receive their emails, the truth becomes quickly clear.

@@Sweeteeeeee I'm not suggesting anybody kill anybody, so that's a pretty poor analogy. I simply don't want to give money to a pro-Trump organization. If reporting is to be believed, their beliefs are as reprehensible as their support of Trump. Anyway, it's my money, and I have a right to spend or withhold it as I please.
