I really like and appreciate these recap/difference videos. Shenmue (the games) can sometimes be so nuanced and if you haven't played one (or a particular section/scene) in a while, it's hard to remember exactly what happened in comparison to the anime. (Also, now I'm going to have to keep an eye out for that beer brand, ha.)

Haha. Speaking of the games, I am surprised that while watching the anime, the scenes in the games play out in my head, and I almost immediately know where to find the events in the game. However, there are SO MANY more details that I'm sure I miss...

As always, great analysis Magnus! I actually wonder if the scene of Ryo getting Zongquan the beer was meant to evoke Ryo getting the old man the coffee at the harbour in Shenmue 1. It's a very similar scene and might have been done so have the scene, but use it to move the story along instead of learning new moves which I do believe is something intentional that the team is doing. Still having a blast with the animation and as always, looking forward to your next video!

Do you think they will make season 2 and will that cover shenmue 3 and 4

That's the biggest question in my mind. I think the honest answer is the following: If Toonami / Crunchyroll are pleased with the ratings and popularity with the show, they will order a second season. The team will then have no choice but to do it. This IS what they're hoping for, because then the game developers can go to different publishers and investors and say "Hey, we're a hit on TV, more people recognize Shenmue, we have to get the game updated so that the show doesn't overlap games." At that point, they'll start covering more of the story, or take longer to tell stories we already recognize.
