@paintdataint Yeah man, I live in Australia and is is cheaper to get one of his books from his own shop and then sent over here from the US than it is to get one of his books from an art shop here - and you get it signed!

I do traditional art. I draw something in pencil, then pen and spend the next few days detailing it. I do highly stylized, grotesque monsters.

how did he sell out. do you know how many street artists are making bank from what they do in galleries? Blek Le Rat, Saber, Ewok, Revok all from 7th Letter, Banksy, Herakut, SOLVE, Miss Van...you name it. It's an art movement that we are now a part of and it will end up in history books. It's just what happens and its better that artists can finally get paid for their talent while they are alive, young etc.

Anyone saying that Fairey is a plagiarist think about this phrase.. 'reinterpretation is the greatest form of flattery' in the art world, originality is an elitist concept because 'originality' leads to kids being holier than thou about everything. Plus, I'd like to see one of you guys come up with something 'original'

thank you ankle. there's nothing wrong with an artist appropriating parts of another artist's work. but if the source is not obvious, and you copied the image as the original appears, and you print it on t-shirts, and sell them with your logo: you have the moral obligation to give credit to the person who created that image. shepard is good, but he can be better.
@DrMetropolis14 жыл бұрын
@tazmon122 I think the exact same thing. he likes to pretend his against big governemnt and corporate control but as he's gotten older (and richer) he's changed his tone quite a bit.
@JackWMS1415 жыл бұрын
could you be anymore wrong? he sells stuff for so cheap, you can get original prints singed and limited for like $60. seriously good quality books for like $30-$50. not many world known artist that are as popularas fairy that have claim to that. Nothing but respect for him

mr fairey needs to give credit to the giants upon whose shoulders he stands while he pontificates about blah blah blah. he does not credit the artists of the works that he appropriates. one of them, rene mederos was my friend, and he was a committed and humble revolutionary. he never thought of his art as a commodity. shame on you shepard.
@micalove13 жыл бұрын
@ccalamuss artists cut their own hair, write their own music; why not wear their own t-shirts? He is representing who he is. He is not wearing a $400 shirt made by some guy.
@YourEyeWitness11 жыл бұрын
Yeah lol, reminds me of Chris Cornell being in a band with some of the members of "revolutionary" Rage Against the Machine. Then Cornell goes on to play at campaign events for Obama, straight up supporting the machine. And that's why these "revolutionaries" are allowed to be all over the mass media, because they are utterly ineffective at dismantling even a single bolt from the machine.

Strangely enough, some of the characters on the prints would never be able to buy a $60 dollar shirt in their life. I don't know about you, I have nothing against the guy, but it's kind of odd to have EZLN revolutionaries on a shirt being sold for money.

We all know the steamy underbelly of F's continual usage of regurgitated art from the greats of the past. F. states that he has been arrested over a dozen times and goes on to explain that being arrested is part of street art... really? Come on now. F, I think, puts himself out there to purposely be seen/ caught so in his next interview he can up the number. It would just be refreshing to hear the icon of todays pop-art-icon give credit when credit is due.

No....its not plagiarism. It's appropriation it's kinda a play on copy right and stuff using something that already exists to create something else. Plagiarism isn't a word you should use lightly...there is a difference between appropriation and plagiarism...you used look up the two before you make such a comment.
@Sigifrith15 жыл бұрын
