“Nafanua”, the new single from ‘Ala Mai’, due for release on 4 August, is a story about the titular character, Samoa’s Goddess of War, the daughter of the God of the Underworld (Pulotu), who was born of a blood clot and buried in the ground, before rising to defeat all warriors who stood against her. Fighting to protect her family, she was feared by all. The track’s pulverising rhythms, heavy chugging riffs and snaking lead guitar all serve to underpin lead vocalist, Filiva’a’s trademark enormous, guttural roar, while the soaring, melodic chorus belies the story’s immense sense of foreboding. Despite the song consisting heavily of local lore, its broader messages sink in deep.

Saw them live in my home town two weeks ago here in NZ. They are coming to Australia. Make sure to get out and support them. Good new metal is hard to come by. And even harder to find with all the noise. So support the bands so we can keep getting some good music for the next generation so they know what real music sounds like. Bias of course, being both a Kiwi and a Pacific Islander.

@@rebelmetal4233 There isn't enough of a cross over due to the non-English lyrics. As a non=English, I get wanting to promote one's culture, language etc and METAL is amazing for that. However, metalheads like to sing along with their fave bands songs and well, that might be an hinderance here for them. I listen to a lot of Metal bands from all over the world, as a fan and as a former radio DJ, so for SR, its really up to them to work out if they want to do a dual language album. Cause that may be a break through to put them over globally. They deserve to global IMO.

A’e, stop with the wrong info..Leave the story of Nafanua to the people of Falealupo where she is from.. she came to free her people of FALEALUPO not free “All of Samoa” & Malietoa & Su’a the Orator (Tulafale) did visit her, Su’a from Saipipi name then changed to Silialaei which is now the High Orator for FALEALUPO!! Malietoa sat outside Nafanuas house and as it started to rain she said “Ua susu lau susuga” That is why to this day, you refer to Malietoa as “Susuga Malietoa” (SUSUGA) which is used for low ranking chiefs and Orators not a paramount chief or a king!! Recap, She came to free her people who were enslaved by the neighbouring district!! There just too many people not from Falealupo who keep talking as if she came for the rest of Samoa ❤️👍🏻
