I go to meetings to find other women dying of alcoholism to get back, but was also really given to me. So you guys work to love other women and help them through the steps. How selfish of me not to help other women in the cross step program to get my life back and just go about my life.

Great explanation by Veronica. Bill W wrote a really good article about Emotional Sobriety in the Grapevine newsletter in the 1950's. He had 20+ yrs of sobriety but emotionally he was still stuck and explained how he felt. That article is published in the book Language of the Heart. That's where I'm at too. I've been sober for years but can't seem to get my emotions to line up with my intellect. I can identify so well with what Veronica is saying and what Bill wrote about. "Emotional unmanageability" -- I like that!

I am a man 30 years sober and I found her talk inspiring. Emotional sobriety / independence is vital to staying sober. I see it as Stage 2 in recovery. I love her message 🙏

Say what you mean, mean what you say and don’t say it mean ❤️ my mom taught me that but left out the last line. A very important one!

I think the power of the pause is an important part in emotional mastery. Very few things need our immediate emotional reaction. So it’s nice to take a moment and sit with my feelings and see what they may be telling me. If there’s an amped story about the other I know that I do not have power over them. I am not empowered.
