Vital proteins do help strengthen nails, but they won't really do anything for the skin. I have tried almost everything to look younger + delay aging as much as possible, anything from face exercises, vitamin C serum, Fraxel, collagen supplements and of course Retin A (7 years straight), home devices and what not. However, nothing made any real difference compared to the high-quality derma pen I purchased for around 100 bucks. Within 3 months of use, my skin has improved DRAMATICALLY. I don't look like I'm 18 again, but definitely not 44 either. My fine lines have disappeared completely, and my nasolabial folds are way less are nonexist (Never had jowls though). People often underestimate the power of wounding and the revolutionary effects it can have on the skin and instead paying thousands of dollars for fillers, botox, etc.

+1 for kora beauticaIs. I've been doing microneedling since it started 12 or so years ago. Nobody believe I am 55. They all say I am in my 30's or early 40's. As you know, as we get old, our skin gets thinner therefore creating wrinkles. But the wounding kept my skin still thick and youthful. Your comment will help so many women to restore their skin..

I’m just being honest, I’m 38 and have always taken really good care of my skin starting at age 23. I use to get Botox but stopped. This is what I use and it works for me: 1.) healthy diet, full of protein (grass fed meat, butter) healthy fats, antioxidants 2.) exercise. I walk 30-45 mins about 5 days a week and toning exercises at home. I sometimes do hot yoga classes. 3) I use tretinoin and vitamin c. 4) I don’t tan and I use mineral sunscreen. 5) I don’t smoke anything lol and I don’t drink. 6) Supplements. I do drink collagen peptides in my coffee every morning, Nutrafol and ashwaganda. I have noticed a difference adding the collagen proteins in my coffee (I added this 4 weeks ago) People think I look 28…I’ll take it. Just sharing my advice ❤

Thank you sooo much for sharing your tips!! I turned 26 this year, i started using retinol a year ago and i only started taking collagen now. Im blessed genetically, for example you have to be 18 to buy cigarette products and alcohol in our country, im trying to stop smoking so i switched to vaping and if i dont have my ID, nobody will sell me anything! They always shocked when i tell them that im 26. People around me used to laugh at me when i was 20 and everybody thought that i was 15, i got made fun of really bad by other woman. I still had a full on mental breakdown at my 26th birthday, i don't want to just rellie on my genetic predisposition, since i now benifit from it! Im truly extremely thankful for people like you who share their tips and don't gatekeep them!! ❤

I started using Marine Collagen from Applied Nutrition last year (it’s much cheaper than the one from Vital Proteins, I’m in the UK - not sure if it’s available in other countries) and I could see the results straight away - my hair and nails started growing at supersonic speed. Skin also improved a lot. I use one scoop a day with a glass of orange juice. Within the past 12 months this was the product helped the most, along with Vichy Lift Activ Supreme Vitamin C Brightening Serum. These two worked magic for me.

I was at a point that I wanted to incorporate every single ingredient in my routine, and my skin had become a mess. Since I've found you, I've slimmed down my routine, almost completely eliminated HA, I use just a few key ingredients, the ones that I really think my skin needs and that work on my skin, and it has never looked and felt better. Dr. Idriss, in my opinion, taking collagen WITH BEEF OR LAMB in the diet has made my skin beautiful. I decided to take photos and stop taking the collagen and the broths/foods and my skin just looked sad after stopping it. The other thing is hydration, obviously. I also consume a lot of lemon, eggs etc. So imo, the supplement just boosts what the food does.

Im 36 but I've always had thin transparent skin thanks to Hypermobile Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (genetic connective tissue disease, basically I make faulty collagen). My skin is like butter. My cat can touch me very lightly with her claws and the very top layer will flake off. My skin heals very slowly. The only thing that I've found that helps the healing is large amounts of protein and oral vitamin c.

@shereeneidriss - I love that you break things down and give the details while leaving agency with your viewers. Can you do a video specifically on products that successfully handle multiple jobs and divide it up by effect for age groups? For example top 5 makeup products that also succeed as skin care (spf, anti-aging, acne control, etc.) I think a lot of us are out here trying to save time, money and confusion when it comes to the day-to-day.

So a question - collagen supplementation has been shown to (in weaker studies but nonetheless) to promote wound healing in burn victims and elderly in nursing homes. Now, those studies compared to no intervention, when it would’ve been more interesting to compare to equal amounts of complete proteins, because we do know that good nutrition as a whole leads to wound healing, and protein calories malnutrition in particular hinders this process. It’s why surgeons love TPN so much despite it being sepsis in a bag. That said, do you know if there is any data of a high protein diet leading to improved skin from an aging standpoint, not the fancy collagens (hydrolyzed or whatever they advertise), but overall high protein diet of complete protein sources? Love your videos. You’re so good at educating people about skin care. I got my mom watching you and she recently bought your major fade moisturizer, and is in love. I’m planning to get it once I use up my current stuff.

Sepsis in a bag 😅 what a phrase. Nursing home residents often are pretty malnourished and Burns victims are loosing extra protein if they have large wounds so often have low albumin. So I'm guessing both benefit from any amino acid source.

Could you make a product review of the well known hungarian brand Geek&Gorgoeus? Many of us viewers living in Europe dont have access to most of the products mentioned in your videos. So geek&gorgeous seems to be the thing for clean, simple and high quality over the counter products. Especially i would be interested in your opinion about their: - Retinols -Vitamin C Serum -Happier Barrier Moisturizer - Glycolic Acid Would be great thanks!

I thought collagen supplements were nonsense. But I bought three months of a vegan amino acid complex because I have chronic pain and I was interested to see if it would help my muscles. (Pain patients will do anything!) Two months in and for the first time in twenty years I bought heavier dumbbells and my skin looks more plump. Part of me thinks it’s “real”, part of me thinks it’s just psychological. But I don’t care. If I’m seeing tangible results and feeling better, I’m happy to spend money on it.

Ok. So I’ve heard at least a few dermatologists say that Collagen supplements are quite effective. But they also said that the collagen should be 1) Hydrolyzed and 2) Contain peptic acids; and 3) grass fed. They have also said that we are wasting our time with topical collagen creams because the collagen isn’t small enough to penetrate the cells. I am paraphrasing because I don’t speak doctor. Lol. Would love to hear your take on this though.

@shereeneidriss That collegen your using I believe only has type 1,2,3 collegen I believe youll see much better results if you use the sprouts brand collegen with mct. Not sure by what mechanisms it works but you want a collegen that has type 1,2,3,4,5 collegen and the source of the collagen matters too. Marine vs bovine vs vegan. Anyways try the sprouts brand it's cost effective and on sale often

Forget collagen for skin, it's just an amazing protein powder in and of itself the amino acid profile is great and it doesn't have the hormones or calcium like whey, lots of glycine is amazing dissolves well and virtually no taste. Lysine and vitamin c are the supplements for actually producing collagen, but are actually extremely healthy all around and more important than the collagen in your skin but for your arteries to prevent heart disease better skin is just bonus. They both do a lot more too and are very safe and cheap.

Also side note for those that come across it, it may sound like a good idea to take ceramide supplements but internal use was associated with heart disease. A better option 10mg Octacosanol taken a day as a supplement was shown to increase skin hydration by 20-40% after 2 months and it's fairly cheap and is good for the heart and brain.
