Any way to use the CRON build-in scheduler to make a snapshot before auto update the firmware?
@sheridans26 күн бұрын
Sorry, no. They decided against auto feature as coupd cause people to run out of disk space if they didn't clean them up.
@bartje88526 күн бұрын
@@sheridans Well that makes perfectly sense, thanks. I will create a cron job for myself and a script that keeps the latest x snapshots. Thanks

Just wanted to ask how can we backup the snapshot externally? Like gdrive or nextcloud? Thanks for the functionality!
@sheridans26 күн бұрын
This is an awesomen idea, never came into my head. Since they're just zfs snapshots, they can be sync'd using zfs send/receive. Syncing the config is all that's needed really.

Great feature,if only native intel quickassist technology cards were supported out of the box

but, if you do a system update, and it breaks the system (no access to ui or cli) then you can't use this to revert? (and you can't set the working config to R, because a firmware update might also reboot the system) ofcourse, as long as you have some parts working you can restore, and i do admit that this way is easier than the old way of getting the old xml back in there :)

I'm assuming only reason you wouldn't have cli access is remote?

@@sheridans I've been doing a deep dive into OPNsense (new user here) and today was "back it up, break it and fix it" learning-day. This video was immensely helpful (liked and subscribed!). I'm thinking if I do break the OS enough that I can't even boot it to login and use the command line at the console perhaps using the flash drive installer may allow me to access the local filesystem for command line bectl commands?
@sheridans17 күн бұрын
Boot Environments (wrongly called snapshots in OPNsense) are available from the boot menu, if you have local access.
