and 30mm is still stronger and easyer to use in game then 37mm

The difference in velocity between the 37mm and the cal. .50s is extreme. They can be set to the same convergence (no choice, really) but the 37mm shells get there about a day later so no point in shooting both at the same time unless you are right on top of the target. The 37mm will do some serious damage if you manage to lob it in. (As der Sheriff is rather good at doing)

The 37mm M4 has a higher muzzle velocity and better penetration of light armor than the Mk-108 though a lower rate of fire and less energy where it explodes.The 30mm mineshell has 60% more explosive energy but thinner walls relying on what it is exploding next to for shrapnel.

I’m hopefully getting into this game shortly. I was a huge WWI, WWII flight sim player in the early 90s but life got in the way until now. Soooooo much has changed since then. I think I have a above average system that covers the “recommended” set up but I’m honestly overloaded with flight control hardware and I’m just not sure where to start. Thanks for the time and effort you put into your videos.

When that 190 ate that 37 it looked like it totally just shrugged it off with a fuel leak. That "target cam" view definitely shows how the damage took time to manifest and then a sprinkling of MG fire finally set it alight. Too bad you spent additional 37 rounds on her even though she didn't need it.

I also like flying the p-39L, 50cal's are pretty good, but the potato gun is not easy to get on an aware target. It is pretty good on ground targets however. That rear vis tho.... not so good. I love the new momentum mechanics of shots in new damage model (seen at @12:45 ). I'm not so sure about all the wheels that fall off from combat mechanic in il-2 GB, seems a bit overdone.

& why does it only seem to register tracers, there are other rounds flying at it but not sparks or anything to indicate a strike? I've also noticed someone getting hit twice then counted 30+ 303 rounds.....weird.

I read somewhere that the prop-shaft on these could break if the pilot increased throttle too quickly. Is that modeled in game?

Sure is, probably the first thing anyone does in this plane haha

Hell yeah. Be very wary of cutting throttle to avoid an overshoot then slamming it forward again. Also avoid the same in spin recovery (which is not as hard as rumour says)

I love the plane as is but think it really needs an ammo counter and it would probably be more effective with 4 or 5 M2 .50s in the nose or maybe even just replace the 37 with a 23mm. The 37 is fun and provides much character but is not very practical.

I've actually never really tried to fly the P39 because in my short time flying it just felt very mediocre unless bomber hunting. Does it have any advantages over other aircraft (aside from the obvious like turning against a 190 ect) Im really tempted to give it a go now.

It outperforms any german plane in maneuverbility. It is also quite fast. Not always faster but fast enough to catch german planes or at least not getting outrunned. It is really evil but the most horrible thing is the bad situation awareness in it.

@@ariannescharfi9366 Which multiple people have told me that if you fly with VR, isn't anywhere nearly as much of an issue because the stereo makes it so you can see past cockpit obstructions. Don't know personally.

From what I've read, the American pilots hated it because they were rarely equipped with it's type-specific oxygen tanks, for high altitude flying, due to a lack of them. They'd have to cruise lower altitudes and would always get bounced from above, usually starting at a disadvantage. Guess it wasn't as much of an issue on the Eastern Front since it tended to be lower altitude engagements there for the Soviets.

Genuine question, how do y’all keep track of a target once you’ve spotted it? I usually end up losing it instantly if I ever do so much as blink let alone open the map really quickly to check position to notify my team. Even if I keep my eye on it sometimes they just vanish from the dimension never to be seen again. I have lowered my gamma to 0.5500 and it’s helped a lot.

A bit late, but something I do especially if they're flying low, is find visual references. Take mental note of their direction and general speed, then find a nearby building or copse of trees. Sure, they may turn off and you'll have to reaquire, but its better than just guesswork.

I fly with someone else over discord. That way while one of us is giving out best description of location the other can transcribe the situation. Or if one of us gets shot down we immediately notify each other and the team. Also very helpful for planes with turrets as one can navigate while the other follows and communicates.

Have you ever tried DCS WW2? It is free right now (till 19.05.), would be interested to hear you opinions. I'm gonna say it right now: the DCS damage model against ai sucks. Against real players, it is actually pretty ok imo.

I dont like WW2 in DCS at all. Since the aircraft are all over the place. Types of 1941 to 1945 but one map for 1944. The damage model is weird at best with the occasion bugs. Dora engine is stopping for no reason. The map and the assets cost extra usaully. Really all over the place.

Do You have joystick ? if yes then IL-2 is better if no War Thunder.
