Fascinating historically, but the music is... misguided, to say the least.

Excellent - the stories were still being written, this was contemporary stuff, not a period piece.

Anyone out there know if it will be showing in the NYC area?
@Puppetmaker409 жыл бұрын
+LandondeeL I believe that Turner Classic Movies is showing it at some point and it is coming out on Blu Ray in the US on November 10th

+Kathleen David I'm writing this in your...'future; and, yes, the Wm. Gillette's Sherlock Holmes HAS been released (by Flickr Alley in a dual Blu-Ray/DVD edition). Also, don't forget, but, on Christmas, BBC will have the Sherlock Christmas special. A truly special holiday gift for one and all. Merry everything! 🎄

Great old film spoilt by this quite awful music.

So glad this long-lost movie was found, especially since the newest BBC Series has helped popularize Sherlock Holmes once again! Yes, though, William Gillette set the gold standard as THE original Sherlock Holmes. However - this clip was ruined for me by the awful musical accompaniment!! Who in the heck picked THAT out? They should be beaten with 50 lashes from a wet noodle - yech!

Agreed on the remarks--it would have been great opportunity to showcase movie accompaniments of the time. It was really poor judgement for sure, but amazing to have all these clips nonetheless!

+DisneyBlackJet What gave you the idea? Mr. Gillette was American. It was filmed in Chicago.

+U.N. Owen Indeed, but the copy they found was French, as the sole subtitle above at 2:12 will attest.
