All the actors in this series put in excellent performances, some of them in very small roles but Jeremy Brett makes you feel like you're really there. He does such a good job of NOT conveying his knowledge of the camera's presence.

In the baths, Sherlock looks so exotic, like a monk. That's actually a part of sir Doyle's description of him :3

I really love the way they use the exact words that Conan Doyle put into the mouths of Holmes and Watson in the books, wherever possible :-)

+sitithesecond While it is not sure that "The Case book of Sherlock Holmes" is written by Doyle. i was unaware of experts suspicion when i read this book, and even i did sense the strange but strong difference in style compared Doyle's earlier works.
@Veaseify8 жыл бұрын
+urmo345 I would imagine that the Conan Doyle writing in the 1920's would not have written in the same way as the Conan Doyle of the 1890's. The Mazarin Stone for example was actually an adaptation of a stage play where it is Watson and not Holmes who is not present throughout.

+Steve Veasey- In the book or written version, Watson appears just barely and most of the action and dialogue takes place in Holmes' lodgings in baker street. The Granada T.V. version was hindered by Jeremy Brett being too ill to act in it. So is life some say, but it makes me feel sad sometimes that he died before they finished more of the stories. The Orange Pips; I don't know how I'd write it for film, that is any visual medium. 'The Mazarine Stone' The actual story could have been put to film. 'A case Of Idendity' was to me dull reading. 'The Retired Colourman' could have been good, so too ' The case of 'Peter Black' or 'Black Peter' Merely supposing here from what was oddly adapted 'The Mazarine Stone' to things they never did. Thanks for the space. Jeremy Brett fan.

Yes, that would have made the girl's obstinate infatuation at least somewhat credible. That, and her stiff, unconvincing acting bring this episode down a bit
@katherinewilson18532 жыл бұрын
@@Themanwhocameback2 On the contrary, when the mind and heart fight, it is when the most credible infatuation happens. I believe everyone is looking at this from their own modern pov and believing that infatuation comes from physical lust. But it does not. Infatuation can come from a devotion to an unhealthy desire in oneself--and that's what happened in this episode. She obviously is infatuated with certain qualities, reflections, or ways she is seeing herself through his eyes, and the way she believes they are in the future, instead of accepting the facts. And as an upper-class Edwardian Englishwoman, I find her very believable. Gruner and she were both wrapped up in themselves: hence Holmes' comment that he could wish her joy with Gruner. Gruner uses lust for purely self-gratification to murderous ends, and she is so entirely selfish, that her only weakness is that she is repulsed by imperfection. Their link only breaks when the human one in the cycle, Kitty, a physically blemished but spiritually and morally beautiful being reveals them both to one another.

Jeremy Brett undoubtedly is most apt to play the role of the great Sherlock Holmes but his distinct pallor I daresay is a hint of some strong makeup ????
@keepitsimple46296 жыл бұрын
caladvertising, that pallor is definitely makeup. I've seen Jeremy Brett interviewed and he's not all stiff and brusque like Sherlock. He dresses very loose with open shirts, and loose hair; very attractive, very colorful.

Have admired Anhony Valentine's performances since I saw him in ZCars what a cutie pie he was even thoughhe was the bad guy. Loved watching the appreciation Toby Meres and Callen developed pver tme because they couldnt stand eac😅h other in the beginning. Am embarrassed to say I liked him as a Nazi in Coditz wow was it the uniform or was it man . If one has never see that program when it seems he despairs about being an invalid almost make one feel sorry for him. Favorite scene from After The Funeral is how well he could act wordless for the camera when he smiles across the table at a middle age lady and she looks behind her self than realizes she's the one he's smiling at and of course her terrible husband watches the little scene. There is three parter that takes plaein a dystopian future where no one should experience unhappines but just can't be because of emotions and actions must be controlled. Last, aive seen Ive seen Barrymore's, Coleman, Niven and Nigel Havers interpretation of the gentleman thief Raffles and except for the script Havers was handed they were all good as Raffles but Anthony Valentines Raffles was the best to this day I use Raffles good night, Dorme Buene, sadly Mr. Valentine passed away from Parkinsons in 2015.
