I agree that the reader of this piece is a pleasure to listen to. He performs the various voices quite exceptionally. Too often those who attempt reading Holmes tales fail, only to sound monotone and boring, making it difficult to listen with any kind of enjoyment. Thank you for posting this, and hopefully he has more in which he Is the reader.

Sir Arthur makes his most common mistake in this story - that of claiming that a dead man's face has an expression of fear or horror or some other wild grimace -in this case a gruesome smile - when in fact, death causes all muscles to relax and fall slack, including facial muscles. A silly and cheap thrill tactic plus being intellectually lazy.
@CCW10251Ай бұрын
Actually, veritas6335, you’re wrong. The rictus grin is well known. “Risus sardonicus or rictus grin is a highly characteristic, abnormal, sustained spasm of the facial muscles that appears to produce grinning. It may be caused by tetanus, strychnine poisoning, or Wilson's disease, and has been reported after execution by hanging.” A really laughable mistake in these stories was the behavior of the cobra in “The Speckled Band.” But still, after inventing the most famous fictional detective of all time, and having entertained many generations of readers, I think Sir Arthur is allowed to make up anything he wants to.

Audio Book Buzz --- Thanks for posting an audiobook to You Tube. Normally I enjoy many Arthur Conan Doyle / Sherlock Holmes stories/books, but this one is not good at all. There are too many people, the plot has too many branches and stems. {[ The hideous sound/voice of the son of the Dead man is....realllly bad.]] {I saw the TV version of this book in the later 1980's on a PBS channel, and even that was bad.} This book is about as hard to follow as an Agatha Christie novel.
@veritas63352 жыл бұрын
A very jumbled story that's hard to follow, and is in some parts just ridiculously far fetched. Interesting only in that this is where Watson meets the woman that he will marry.

Who is the person in the illustration for this posting of the book? The illustration bears zero resemblance to the descriptions of Sherlock Holmes, who reportedly has aquiline features, a hawk-like countenance and most certainly not long hair gathered in a fluffy bun at the back of his neck!

You should try and get a few other peoples voices in it as can get a bit boring. But thanks for sharing it as it is much better then reading as I have dyslexia.

Hi! Thanks for the input. Great to have you here! You can try listening to the dramatic reading of this book. In that version each character is read by a different person. We'll provide the link bellow. Enjoy! kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y3-yYqKPqKt1bKs
