General Robert W. Hasbrouck, commander of the 7th Armored Division can be seen in this impromptu ceremony congratulating the five-man crew of 17th Tank Battalion Sherman tank "Bowery Bum" on May 4th 1945. The vehicle had the rare distinction of making it through almost nine months of combat with the same crew from Omaha Beach in Normandy where it came ashore in August 1944, wetting its tracks from one symbolic end of the continent to another. The fighting included support of Operation Market Garden as well as the Battle of the Bulge.
