After seeing this the joust at TRF and Scarborough seem rather tame and on Apr 9 there will be a full contact tourney with a $20,000 purse. I'm gonna be there for sure! For Still Shots and more Faire photos visit my website.

I love this but it seems like the horses should have chest, face, and eye protection. They certainly do in medieval/renaissance depictions of jousting.

There are many variations, this is one of them. Never seen a horse injured but have see knights give blood a couple of times.

Yeah if someone accidentally drops their lance too low... Yikes. Or maybe the broken lance can do weird things too.

The horses are supposed to be at a gallop, they need to have much longer and wider lanes for this to be as cool as it could be.
@GnonplussedGnome
@GnonplussedGnome 7 жыл бұрын
Actually the lanes are regulation length and width and remember these are not Thoroughbred or quarter horses they are more like an M-60 tank

@@GnonplussedGnome Wrong. Im sure Quarter horses are a modern american breed. Horses like the warlander, percheron, andalusian, friesian, spanish norman, the iberian , irish draught, frederiksborger, ginetta, kladruber, lipizzan, lusitano, menorquin, murgese, neapolitan and the shire horse are all direct decendants of medival coursers and rounceys. Horses like the shire who is the biggest breed in the world decend from the heaviest class of war horses but they were also used for heavy work like pulling carts and timber ofcourse which today has become their only job sadly..

Yes and if you want full realism you should also use realy energetic and aggressive minded steeds instead of slow low energy castrated males and the grumpy disobedient mares that is usualy seen everywhere nowadays..

Just out of curiosity (I'm new to jousting), do the horses wear body/eye protection during these events? I was looking at when the lance broke apart and went flying (first round). I'd think it'd be a concern of those pieces flying up and hitting the horse in the eye. Correct me if I'm wrong.
@arayashikinoshaka
@arayashikinoshaka 7 жыл бұрын
The horses do not wear eye protection, however, the impact of the lances happen above and beyond the horses heads, also, when shattering happens, 1. Both horses are moving at full speed past each other 2. Both lances are past both horses' heads. The only real danger the horses face is if they recieve a direct hit from the lance, which will not happen
@DarkValorWolf
@DarkValorWolf 5 жыл бұрын
the first reply to this is right, though I have also seen tournaments where they did wear head protection just for extra safety

Great video! I would love to watch something like this in real life. These guys must be in great shape but even so they have to be hurting at the end of a match.

Not the biggest fan of the Joust, but still this 1 in particular is somethin else. One question, are those lances as heavy as they come or are there even heavy lances used?
@psykopanda11
@psykopanda11 5 жыл бұрын
Seem much heavier in eastern europe and there they use sharp points from time to time also. We westerners should learn from the east as they have not yet forgotten how to be a man as the west have done.

Poor horses
@psykopanda11
@psykopanda11 5 жыл бұрын
This is what they were bred for! This is the reason why they no longer look like a tiny deer reaching up to our knees! Would you rather they stand around in some barn living a meaningless life being annoyed constantly by little girls who do not respect them like most other horses today live? Or perhaps you wish to slaughter them and turn them into sausage? Even that would be better than being tortured all life or having your body naturaly decay from inactivity! The truly poor horses are those castrated and left to rot in a stable! Not the glorious and testostronous!
