Incredible, the amount of supplies required in modern treatment of T1! Plus the size of bag required. It can be daunting, to travel.I recall, 40 years ago, I could easily carry equipment in small bag!

This is such a good point!! Yes - the tech has gotten better and better and better but the size of items required...larger and larger!!! It's definitely something that has to be balanced and dealt with when traveling especially!!! By the way - 40 years is an INCREDIBLE achievement and I'm so in awe of you!!!! I hope you know that!!!

I absolutely do the same thing when I’m doing a task and go low. I just think, “Oh, I’ll deal with that later” and keep going. And then later shows up pretty soon after and I’m forced to deal with it. But rarely do I stop my task. The power of a low - it’ll keep me right on task, even if I probably shouldn’t be!

Great video Andrea. I do that (keep at a task when I know I'm starting to get low). Later I might be high from eating / drinking to many carbs. I also pack more diabetic supplies than I need, but that's ok to cover contingencies like delayed or cancelled flights. Best wishes for the festive season and for the cruise. It should be very relaxing.

I’ve been treating lows with the fruit snacks too! I use the Mott’s and yes, not chalky! For myself, I’ve found they work better than glucose tablets, once again, that’s me! So frustrating when busy and have a low! Hope you had a Merry Christmas and New Year! God bless!

Happy Holiday to you and your Family! I would love to see how you handle all the bodemless food on a cruiseboat. How and if you make smart choices and how you estimate the carbs. Because we are also on a cruise in February. First time for my 5 year old with diabetes.

Know the packing feeling well. I always take more than enough supplies and insulin with me and also backup in my suitcase, its Diabetec paranoia. I check when my Dexcom is going to expire and if its on the same day of travel or during my flight time, I change before hand. merry Christmas

Happy holidays!! Sounds like a very exciting adventure. Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!!! I will say that when it comes to my trips, I'm definitely an over packer of diabetic supplies. Especially with dexcom. I even factor in accidental knock-off. Send my love to the Big Ten champions. Go Blue.

Great video!! Very realistic to the overwhelming feeling that we have during packing. At least it what I experience. I stress a bit less packing since the iPhone app has been released. Instead of packing Lantus and Humalog pens I just pack the Omnipod 5 controller. If something happens to my phone I can just switch to the controller which takes up very little space in my luggage.

Oh fruit snacks is an excellent idea for little kiddos I would think!! Awesome!!! I don't use the G7 yet because it's not compatible with the Omnipod 5 along with the iPhone App (you can use it with the reader but not the app yet) - as soon as it's compatible with the app I'll be hopping right over to it because I've tested it out and I LOVE IT!!!!!

We are heading out on Christmas Day for a 6 week trip. I may have to go manual by the end of it. Which freaks me out. We fly out and then are in our small B van the rest of the time. I do not understand how people get extra supplies, I am always on the edge of the 90 days they give me. And yes, I call for replacements for issues. Merry Christmas, enjoy your trip!

I have not figured out how to get a surplus of Dexcom G7's. G6's were quite easy to restart an old sensor. Fortunately I had 2 months surplus of G6's when they started out sending G7's. Tandem pump supplies are easy to extend over a period of time to have extras'. Omnipod, I have no clue.

Travel as T1D is “fun”. Get the normal supply and backup. What to do if the phone dies (OmniPod) or insulin goes bad. The individual bags for organizing is great. I miss the old Dexcom applicators. They were very small easy to pack.

Hi Andrea. Would you consider doing a video on how to manage diabetes and packing for a long flight over multiple time zones? I live in Toronto and I’m headed to Greece in May for three weeks. I figured that with the number of transatlantic flights you’ve done you’d be the perfect person to ask. Food? Insulin? Jet lag? Thanks. I can use all the help I can get!! Christine

I have not that much experience as Andrea has, but 12 years ago, before I had CGM, I did a trip with a 12 hours different in time. Everytime we landed I adjusted the time of the insuline pump. But the day after traveling I did as well when traveling to there as back a very serious hypo. So that is surely a dificulty you need to be aware about and be prepared for. With CGM you would get faster alarms then I had at that time so will be easier now then 12 years ago.

Happy holidays everyone! That is the reason I like to go on camping trip. A lot of space in the car for my diabetes stuff 😉. I travel not much by plane. I can imagine that for such a long trip it can be a chalange. Travel next time to New Zeeland for having an extra chalenge. 12 years a go I had to go to there to represent as volunteer an international organisation. A trip for 2 weeks. It was already 36 hours of traveling to get there. I checked the conditions before on the abasade. All the stuff for diabetes will be only accepted when you have unopened boxes. So as you got them from the pharmacy. And you need a letter from your doctor with a list of all supplies you need. So that is more then you needed in that time much more and so also much more place in your lugage. Give me also a lot of stress. And the funy thing is, one of the meetings I was there was for a meeting of UNESCO and there was an ex minister of the country who take me to all the locations and interviews I had to do. So I pass first the customs who were asking for what I was there and were to stay. Then I go to the drop of the lugage and there was a person asking me that I was who I'm and he bring me with my lugage aroud all other custom and food and drug controls directly to outside while he was doing a nice talk on the subject I was there. No control at all! And for that I had all that stress and all that puzzling work. Seems that they treated me as a diplomat becuase of the connection with the ex-minister and the unesco meeting and as result off that you have not to do all the cheques of lugage and so on.

Travel + Insulin always stresses me out. I've been using Walkers shortbread cookies to treat lows successfully for the past six months, they are easy to carry and a 2 cookie pack is 17 carbs / 150 calories.

I was remunded of Andrea when yesterday I somehow screwed up with my pump that instead of puting 12 carbs i set 12 units... the dexcom beeping and i chalk it up to crompresuon lows, when it said 50 i finger prick in front of my wife and she was just staring at the number when i did it twice. It was 34 and 32, Well I got to enjoy a frosty Root Beer in full and 20 minutes later a burito al pastor. For the next 2 to 3 hours it would not go past 105, lesson learn 😅

Omgoodness your low was so hard to watch, I wanted to help you through the screen! Could your insulin sensitivity be connected to your period? Insulin is a hormone, as are estrogen/progesterone. I had to plan in advance for my periods and make sure carbs were ready. Anyway! I agree, packing with DM is challenging! So many supplies and planning...
