Great video. I rotate starting with R upper arm, R butt, R abdomen, R thigh. Then repeat the rotation on the left. Then factor in CGM placement and it’s not always exactly in order, but it works for me. As for tubing catching on doorknobs and pulling the site out, I always tape the tubing to my skin about 3-4” from the insertion site so if there’s a snag, it will pull on the taped down section and the insertion site is safeguarded.

Great video! I think we pumpers always need ideas for new sites! I love the lower back. Use the whole waist area a lot! Never tried the first two sites you showed. Honestly, I would be scared to pull it out from inner leg or upper arm. But challenge accepted! I will try it! Nice outfit change between the 3 parts;)

Thank you! I’m new too T1D as I was a Type II. Anyway, just after my 69th birthday my Doctor was trying to understand why in 18 months I went from an A1C of 6 to 9. He had me do some labs and we found out that I was LADA with only 0.7% of pancreas produced insulin. I’m now a T1D and my Endocrinologist is great. I first got rid of my diabetes oral medication and started Basal once a day. Then I got a CGM and started taking Blousing before meals. Long story short I got my pump about 10 days ago and it has been amazing…I don’t have to take 5+ injections daily! Thank you and many others who share their experiences! God bless you!❤

Hi Andrea, thank you for inspiring me to get my blood glucose under control. I have been a diabetic for 25 years, and not really serious about getting better in managing it until i stumbled upon your KZbin channel last November 2020 . My A1C has been between 12-14 range for the last 10 years. After watching some of your videos, i decided to get a Dexcom CGM and Tslim pump to help manage my diabetes. I am excited to share my lab result i received today, my A1C is at 7.9!!! Isn't that amazing? I am so looking forward to maintain or better this result. Thank you

Hi Andrea, I just started using this Islet Insulin Pump. Traumatized from Medtronics Pumps. Forced to use it 2x’s in past & awoke 2x’s in hospital after being in a coma! Had severe hypoglycemia due to it. Not typical diabetic. Not hereditary for me. Thyroid was nuked by Naval hospital when I was 16 & they automatically stated I was type 1 but was mistake! I wasn’t! Ruined entire life. No MDs could figure me out, refused to see me; 1 office told me to figure out own dosages by myself. Told them NEVER tell a patient that. It could kill them. I wished I reported them! Luckily I survived. Ending up getting used to hypoglycemic episodes over 9 months & no longer feeling symptoms of severe hypoglycemia. (Will show bg in finger sticks as low as 17 or even LOW) Dexcom constantly beeped. I won’t feel it. Lost top teeth in past & had to get them replaced while being in icu for 3 days. I’m now trying to learn this Islet Pump almost 2 months since UCSD can’t really figure me out. They’re the last MDs willing to help me. I appreciate areas other than tummy! My hubby puts my Dexcom G6 on my lower back for me & it’s painful! They want it on my belly but I keep bleeding each time! They want me on the islet since insulin pens won’t suffice. So I’m trying to figure out where to put it. Have bad bruises from it on my belly f bleeding. When I remove the site after 3 days it’s purple & inflamed. Don’t know where else to put it. Will try to put it on other areas like you’ve shown aside from my lower back since I said my Dexcom G6 is back there & that’s painful as heck. TYVM you’re awesome!! 💯 Will try my arm or inner leg now…just have to see how to keep it from being snagged. I exercise a lot-biking. K enjoy your weekend & upcoming week ahead!!

When I started on my first pump I was told to only use my abdomen and not to use other areas but I think advice has changed now, it took me a long time to move away from there and now I mainly use my thighs. I have quite chunky thighs so plenty of space there 😂 I'm quite keen to have a go using my arms but I have a libre and I'm not sure about how far apart they may need to go, I will see if I can find out so I can give my arms a go. Thanks for sharing your favourite sites, it's always useful to see what other people do 🙂

So I put it on my arm but I think my tubing is too short since I like to clip my pump on my waistband, it feels like it's pulling when I move my arm 😬 I have 60cm tubing and I just ordered 3 months-worth of consumables so next time I'll order some 80cm tubing sets, hopefully I'll remember!

Good for your for trying the arm!! But oh - I'm so sorry about the short tubing! I don't know about you but that feeling of pulling drives me wild - I don't like it at all! At least you've had a go at it and can order longer tubing next time! With regards to how far apart the Libre and pump site should be - I find as long as the site and Libre aren't right next to each other - you're good to go!!! Good luck my diabuddy and thank you for sharing your experience here!! 💙💙💙

Thank you for your time and effort in making this video. I have had type 1 diabetes since 1985. I used shots for my insulin delivery until 2007 but am now on a pump and CGM. The addition of a CGM makes my blood sugar control very good. I have very few low blood sugar events whereas with shots I had low blood sugar events at least twice a month. My A1C has never been above 6.0 and mostly I have an A1C of 5.7 or lower. Your video helped me with alternative spots on my body to attach my infusion sets. Lately, however, I have had some blockages in the sites I use for my infusion sets. I have reversed some of these blockages by using my thumb and forefinger to massage the infusion set locations. I have used the area on each side of my navel and have had great results with my infusion set success. I also use the area on my hips to attach my infusion sets and this area also has responded to my massaging the area to reduce infusion set blockages. I still have to repeat the placement of the infusion set due to scar tissue buildup but as I continue to massage the infusion sites my success has increased, and the infusion blockages have stopped occurring as often as they used to. So, the point of all this is to encourage pump users to massage daily the older infusion set sites. It will be a while before the sites are unblocked but I believe my success is positive affirmation that this will work to reduce future infusion set blockages. Any comments you have about this comment will be appreciated and I look forward to future episodes.

Oh a new pumper 😍! I hope you're enjoying it and it's all working well for you Lora, and I'm glad this might have given you some more site ideas! It took me a while to get myself to change my site area because quite frankly I was scared too (just me being silly I guess!) I don't actually go so far as to change my pump settings, as like you, I use the Tandem IQ system, but I do keep it in mind with my mealtime bolus, maybe taking a little less or more with meals according to my sites' absorption rates, but a lot of it is a little bit of a guessing game of course! Big love and joy to you my fellow Diabuddy and thank you for watching! 💙

I just started a new infusion site 2 days ago on my right side just above beltline and just passed halfway back. My thighs were overused. Yesterday my BG's were all in the high 200's and by 5pm it was over 300! I thought maybe I was coming down with something because when I'm sick it almost always runs high. My stomach was feeling slightly nauseous so I wasn't sure if I was sick or it was because my BG stayed so high for so long and I wasn't able to eat anything. And at one point I thought 'it's probably that smoke from those dang Canadians'! I'm in upstate NY and right now the skies are smoky yellow! Smells like I'm at a campfire. With no beer or marshmallows! 🙁

I use my abdomen and sides of my waist. Interesting that I was told when first starting that the abdomen is preferred because the absorption rate would be more consistent there than, as you noted, when wearing on you thigh. Thank you for the video. I started pumping (type II) in my late 50s. Wearing the pump on the waistband resulted in broken clips, ripped out infusion sites and all manner of problems. About three years ago I moved the pump into a pocket T-shirt with a small hole cut just above the pocket. I've always run the tubing to my abdomen without problem the arm and the leg are not sites I've tried. To be honest I'm concerned with flexibility in being able to reach those sites (I'm not in my late 60s). Any secrets for actually getting it inserted into the back of the arm? (FWIW I don't use the arm for my CGM either for the same reason.)

I am considering the T-slim, up until now with other pumps I have worn my pump in a bra pouch where the tubing slots down through a hole in the pouch. That leaves me free to move around without noticing the pump. I'm hoping that if i do upgrade to the tandem that that will still be possible. Sites I use are mainly upper ab/lower ab/thighs, although I have started to put my freestyle libre sesnsor on the front of my thigh lately, when I was trialling an onmipod dash

Hi Andrea. Thanks for the reply. Something you said helped me and I thought you’d like to know. It made so much sense but when you said the bit about putting your infusion set in a spot where one has a little more sub-Q tissue, “something something” lol, I moved my infusion set above my knee by about 5”, kind of medially. I have a little “soft bit” there and the absorption is great. Plus I love the infusion set away from the abdomen. Upper leg is good too but it gets in the way a bit more as you can imagine. Also, I’ve made the chia seed pudding twice already! Love it!!! So easy and yummy. So thanks. Much appreciated! Denis

I'd love to find out how you guys are getting success with your inner leg. I've tried it 3 times now, and it either fails in usual fashion, or hurts like absolutely crazy where I have to rip it out. Or I insert it, and I wake up the next morning with my sugars rising at a steady level. My last few days have been mountains, spiking to 12 to 18, and sinking to 3 when it starts working, and then fails hours later for the spikes. And I'm not talking about inner leg, but every insertion site I've tried ends up with this formula. And no matter where I insert, these things are constantly failing on me just a few hours later. Where they should be working for 3 days. I'm just about to burst into tears out of frustration. These insertions do not work. Been on these things for 3 years now, Type 1 for 10+ years. Tried the AutoSoft 90 degrees and 30 degrees. Switched to 30 degrees, because they seem to work better. But still failing I swear, like 70%+ of the time. I don't have much body fat. Legs just feel like a thin layer of skin. Same with stomach. Just feel screwed, and also the OmniPod 5 is not available in South Africa. And I see Tslim x2 is not even approved for Type 1, like the OmniPod 5 is. For me they work absolutely great when the insertion itself works. And a big question for me is do the OmniPod 5 insertions keep failing. And is anyone else having such crazy failure rates? I feel like the only one who's going crazy with these failure rates. And its been months on end. Anyways, not even sure there's a solution forwards for me right now. Feel like I'm just shouting at the air for no solutions.

The site isn't noticeable at all I've found! But when I'm wearing really tight jeans and things like that I do have to be very creative about where I put the actual pump, because that can be quite tricky! The best I've found so far in those scenarios is to put it in my bra, either in front (between boobs) or to the side! I hope this helps friend!

This is a fantastic video. I’m getting ready to go on vacation to stay with friends at a beautiful ocean side cabin. I worked hard during the pandemic to build up a great looking body and I don’t want infusion set or CGM sensor showing. After vacation I will go back to using my stomach and arm for infusion set and sensor. Something I’ve been doing for almost 10 years could be valuable to your followers. I cut a small hole in the upper section of my front pocket of my pants. It’s high enough so nothing will fall through the whole like coins etc. When I first started doing this I sewed around the hole so that it didn’t open up, I found this wasn’t necessary. The holes don’t open up because there’s no tension on them. I can thread the infusion set connector through the hole so that it connects to my body and the pump simply sits in my front pocket. There’s no cord to catch on anything and it’s not visible at all! I realize that some people will not want to cut their pants, but it’s just the lining of the pocket and this has never been a problem for me. Thank you again for a great video.

I hear you! I use my inner/top thigh, so as to avoid the outer leg muscle, because - ouch - I would imagine that is quite painful indeed! But we're all different - what's painful for me may be very excellent for you and vice versa! Whenever I'm trying new sites I just have patience and if they hurt badly on insertion or cause me discomfort for an extended period of time I just remove it and change it early - that's my MO! Good luck with trying out a new site - and good for you for trying a new one out as well!! 😁

Being lean are you finding issues with insulin flow being blocked? I feel that being lean there is issues with the insulin flow being blocked by hitting a muscle? So I always try to find a more "flabby" part but I'm below 15% body fat and finding it difficult to find a new spot? I use my inner thigh for my CGM and then used my upper buttocks for my infusion sets so I tried to find a new spot and tried the love handles to only have to change it out 3 times in one day due to insulin flow being blocked! Quite frustrating so I will attempt the lower back like you have but due to lifting weights wonder how the back of the arm will work.
@ShesDiabetic

I hear you! I don't personally find too many issues with the flow being blocked. But I do try to avoid muscle as I find that can be quite painful. I do know some extremely lean people that have benefited from a metal cannula as opposed to the plastic ones? Maybe this is something you could speak to your doctor about! Frustration with Insulin delivery is the worst so I really feel you and hope you're able to find a solution that works for you!

Have you ever looked into the Omnipod, the tubeless pump? My daughter (9) was diagnosed not too long ago so we don't have a pump yet, but I have seen many parents talking about the Omnipod system. (we are in Canada if that matters)

I have indeed - I've always been very intrigued by the tubules system, but haven't been able to use it because my doctors/catchment within the NHS have not had that available to me as a pump option. I LOVE my TSlim right now though, because it's a somewhat automated system when used with the Dexcom and has allowed me to have really excellent time in range percentages. No matter what you and your sweet sweet daughter choose I wish you all the very best and a sincere wish that you find what works best for you!! PS - I should say a lot of parents like the Omnipod for their little ones because it's less likely to be pulled out via the tubing - so an excellent choice for wee ones! 💙💙💙

The Tandem customer service asked me what kind of infusion set I wanted because they had a variety of them. I’m pretty active and on the leaner side and was wondering which infusion set you used? It's been years since I've ripped out a site, which kinda surprises me. I have my canulas on my stomach about 3 inches from the middle, flipping sides each time. As a guy I keep my pump in my front left pants pocket. Tubing is tucked into my pocket, over my waistband, and under my shirt (24"). Sometimes it wants to stick out a little, but mostly it's just seen from my pocket up to my waistband. I've seen several other guys do this also. I have the tubing, other people might see it, but nobody has ever said anything. I might try the leg spot now that you've shown where/what works. I suspect this is a lot more challenging for women than guys. Do women pre-plan sites based on what they might be wearing for social events?

Fantastic! I'm so glad to hear you're trying it out and finding it useful! This is wonderful news! It's never easy to change sites so that in and of itself is a really awesome achievement (at least in my opinion!) Also - I hear you on the sorter tubing! Sometimes I like the length because it just gives me more to play with and no restriction, but often times it's just a lot of tubing hanging off of me and that feels rather unexcellent! Also - sorry you don't have a bra to connect to - I guess we can't have it all 😂😂😂

Hi Andrea! My love handles and abdomen are my favourite places. I tried the arm last summer and found it difficult when changing my clothes. It was more to think about lol. Thanks so much for the video! Lots of love.

More to think about - I hear you on that one!! We're all different and what works for one may not work for another - I love that and find it fascinating in so many ways! Thank you so much for watching and lots of love right back to you!! 🥰

I've been a diabetic for 9 years now, just installed my first pump about an hour ago and hoping this will help my sugars! It's a super confusing process but this helps a lot!

Congratulations! You’re going to love it! I had to go back to syringe based delivery recently for a couple of weeks and I missed my pump so much! It can be inconvenient at night time but I have workarounds for that.

Ive been rotating around my abdomen and been feeling stressed about a new site. I was hoping this vid would give me the courage to use a new spot but I ended up just putting it back in my stomach. Maybe next time!

Thank you for this and all your other videos. Have been Type 2 Diabetic for ~30 years, mostly using oral meds for BS control. Within the last 2 years, I was switched to a regimen of both short and long acting insulins using KwikPen delivery in conjunction with Dexcom G6 for BS reads. Eight months ago, Tandem tSlim x2 with IQ Control became part of my life - what a game/life saver for me! My BS is showing better control (still room for improvement) but much better than me guessing how much insulin to give and when, etc. Your videos are so informative and easy to understand with an ability to watch several times to really digest some of the tips or comments you make during your presentation. I have watched several of your videos and have you as a Favorite Channel and have subscribed to follow past and future videos. My wife and I are 68 years old . She says she still wants me around (haha) but retirement makes for lots of togetherness and she is actively looking for a job - for ME! Thank you again and look forward to watching your next episodes. Have a Great Life!

Struggle to pop insulin pump into bra, obs only decent option, when wearing a frock..though..depends on bust area design....anyway..fumbling in bra area, re insulin pump, rather embarrassing..so just areas, where I can slot pump into trouser/skirt, waistband, pockets

You’re kind of hero, I’m diabetic since 19 years and I always try to hide my pump and needle(people are so stupid to understand how your life could be much easier with that),but now I’m trying to push myself and show it out. You’re speaking about that in a fantastic way, I really estimate you. And anyway great tips about the legs, I’m going to try it now and see how it goes. Thanks.

Oh Francesco - thank you oh so much! I'm no hero - just a gal with type 1 diabetes - but your kindness is wonderful for the ego 😂🙏🏻. I think you're willingness to show your pump more - and living with this condition is heroic in and of itself!! GOOD FOR YOU!!!! Let me know how the leg site goes for you!! I wish you such wonderful things my friend!!! 💙💙💙

Arm site for pump n glucose reader, tends to fail, before its due to change. Re bra,top straps, snagging n pulling at sensor. Similar with, outer fat area of hip, botty area. Safe sitew, personally, tummy and upper chest area.

My dining room table is lethal to stomach sites. But, I also run into walls and pull Dex off all the time, so an arm site probably wouldn't work. I've kind of learned to suck it in when getting up from the table.

I’ve been a T1D for 45 years and my go to spots are on my lower abdomen since we have pets, young grandchildren and I’m a klutz 😏 but my arms, legs and even boobs are used. My skin is super sensitive to adhesive so I’m limited to those spots (for some reason I can’t explain) I love the leg but it’s not practical most of the time.

Ah! Excellent Lisa!! I've never had good luck with my belly personally, which is why you don't see it featured here - but hey! Doesn't that just go to show how different we all are! Good luck with the new site! I hope it proves worthy, and logistically possible too - hehe!! 😄
