In this video I finish the last 3 rubber Claytonrite windows in the boat. Some were easy and some were not! Some cutting was involved on one of them. If you didn't see the first window install then jump back an episode.

I used to fit those same window seals to bus windows and i even fitted my old car window back in the early 90s. I was taught to always fit the rubber to the window first and then fit a peace of washing clothes line down one side and half way along the top and with the other end of the rope do the exact same on the other side of the window so that the two parts of the rope meet up in the middle at the top. Get someone to fit the window in at the bottom and then push down gently on the Glass and also press the front of window keeping a bit of pressure on it. Then from the inside start pulling the tail end of the rope at the bottom corner and the rubber will fold out over the fiberglass. Keep pulling on the rope up and around the corner. Do the same with the other side and your window should be done in around 10 or 15 minutes. I hope this helps. Oh and no fairy liquid or other lubes were used.

Looks great. I know it's a pain but they look so much better being done correctly

Found this after really struggling with my Orkney 520. I’m doing it the same way as you. The video from seals direct makes it look so easy. Good honest video, need to crack on and finish mine. Be under no illusion it is really hard and almost caused a divorce 😟.

Always check the window against the appeture first, it`s amazing how many times you find the same window is actually larger or smaller from one boat to another. I`ve been enjoying your vids, also the Seamasster 27, one my favourite small family cruisers ever made.

Good video! Be fitting my windows this Saturday, I have a large window at the front which has quite a curve I’m dreading it.

Hi, how did it goes? Have you bent the window prior installing it or have you bent it while installing it? thx

Those windows looked hard work the way you did them. I would of used the glass in the rubber and string to to pull the rubber through the hole. Takes a quarter of the time
@lastaccountbannedfortalkin14493 жыл бұрын
You cannot do that as you will tear the inner seal. There are three faces to these seals.

just a little trick for the next time you have to put such wind chimes in, put a thin line or string in the rubber strip where the glass is to be sided and then make the glass fit in from a corner or at the bottom where the two ends from the line come from the rubber list and then you press the window into place and as you pull the line, you pull the rubber, the list can extend over the glass and the glass snaps into place

when cutting the perspex window size, should it be the exact same size as the window frame/hole or do you need a few mm smaller to take account of the rubber seal?

I need to replace my windows on my Shetland 536 but I’ll be putting gutter sealer in the rubber where it meets the boat and trying the string method like I use to use on classic cars. Put the rubber on the window then get someone to push from outside while you pull the core you already run in the external grove. Have a look I’m sure there’s a video about that. Good work tho pal

@airsoftargonaut37383 жыл бұрын
@@burger101ful I’ve ordered new rubbers, the front windows will be 4mm acrylic but the fiberglass is 5mm thick so 5mm by 5mm rubber. The side windows will be 5mm for the window at 4mm but the fiberglass is only about 3mm thick so a 5mm by 3mm rubber. Have a look when you take the window out as the thickness might be different like mine.
@airsoftargonaut37383 жыл бұрын
Did you renew the rubbers? If so what size did you use? I’ve noticed the front of my boats windows openings are about 5mm fibreglass where the side windows are only about 3 mm thick.

I can't remember now, 12m rings a bell, it was about £100, you'll have to measure round the windows and add a bit.
