As someone who lived in Shetland for over seven years I can honestly say that those sleeping pods on the ferry are awful. They're something akin to a medieval torture device. If there was a cabin available I always paid the extra and have the added benefit of privacy too. Good to see the islands again, in a nicely shot film. One thing I learnt early on in my time in Shetland is that the locals hate the term Shetlands. It's Shetland or Shetland Islands. Off to watch part two now 🙂

Ah I guess if you are doing the trip regular maybe you’d want the cabin.. ⛴ alas for me the Pod was absolutely fine, not bothered about the privacy TBH but I guess some will more than others huh .. 😀👍

Ah thanks bud 👍🚴.. I arrived in Lerwick early June.. there is a kind of summer however you have to accept that the weather can be very changeable & one thing that is always present is the wind.. I did have some fabulous weather TBH .. well ideal for cycling/Bikepacking .. I was however somewhat brutalised by the wind and rain on route to Lerwick.. as you may well have seen, the Shetland’s is a fabulous location, rugged beauty but when that rain comes there are no hiding places 😆 no trees .. & few buildings … but I wouldn’t have it any other way .. it’s undulating at times .. yes .. but from my perspective not unduly so… others may challenge that version I guess that’s down to one’s own level of ability huh ..There are many unique aspects to the Shetland’s & I am sure I’ll return once again in time - you will surely enjoy it if you venture across 🏴 😀 safe cycling 🚴♂️ out there 👍

And take brief look across to bressay …Cycled as soon as left ferry ⛴ @ around 0745-8000hrs … u obviously have the travelling on top of that … 12.5hr from Aberdeen- Lerwick .. but a good window to get it all in & have time in the bag 😀👍

Nice video. I'm looking for my first bike and I'm interested in the Diverge. I am wondering if you think the carbon models are worth the upgrade over the aluminum? Or would I be better off with the aluminum and upgraded wheels? How is the ride quality of your bike? Thanks!
@salvaquest2123 Жыл бұрын
🤔 hi there, in regard to aluminium or the carbon? I was always going to get the aluminium.. the base model Carbon may be slightly less weight but it’s absolutely minimal, ultimately on a comfort level the aluminium frame soaks up the bumps & ruts better so over longer distances & day to day riding you’ll feel less fatigued, I looked for a prefect compromise by having the aluminium frame & by changing the wheel set for a top quality set of Carbon rims which I run tubeless .. the bike rides outstanding.. I have other bikes including a full carbon frame .. I have two road bikes one carbon frame & one is aluminium.. it’s noticeable how much stiffer the carbon bike is & so more responsive but also how much more one feels the road surface and so on day to day riding more fatigued … The Gravel bike ticks many boxes ☑️ and the Diverge Comp E5 is perfect for Bikepacking & all manor of riding on road or off roads trails.. change the tyres and you’ll change the set up .. you can run up to 47mm tyres with the frame clearance which is impressive as for me .. I’ve set mine up for my bike packing running the 700x38mm 👍🚴safe cycling hopefully you have a little more insight ..😀 I short The E5 Comp is the updated aluminium frame version, get this and then look to get some stiffer Carbon rims and run them tubeless & you’ll have the ideal set up ✅

@@salvaquest2123 Thank you for thorough response, this is very helpful. I was under the impression that carbon mutes the road buzz better than aluminum. At least that is what I have been reading.

Did you cycle all the way from the England's?
@salvaquest21232 жыл бұрын
Alas time didn’t allow that in my window of opportunity… cycled 2 Train station - just £48 to cover over 500 miles to Aberdeen- ⛴ ferry 2 Lerwick … was able to cover all mainland & the big islands 👍😀🚴 well worth venturing across as always 🏴 never fails to impress & mesmerise 🏔 - safe cycling 👌
