My daughter went on an overnight field experiment trip with fellow students and she was the only one (the rest were guys) who knew how to build and light a wood fire to cook food. Мне тоже как-то пришлось ночевать в доме с плохой печью..да вдобавок ещё и спина разболелась хоть караул кричи...выход из положения был такой:- нашла десяток кирпичей...нагрела их ...засунула под матрац и улеглась спать ..тепло было как у бабушки на печи...а на утро и спина перестала болеть !!! 😁😁👍👍👍

Many years ago I found a place ,a shepherds hut, Very run down. It was 15 miles from the house. Built up 5 bricks at a time. Fire on the ground and a chimney ,sleeping area off ground and that was it. Eat on sleeping area. Weather was never worse than - 5, easy life . Granite rocks stay warm for a good time, after heating round fire. Never forget how necessary a good knife and axe are. Many a quiet few days with a good book spent there.

In my early youth we lived in a house with no running water, outside bathroom, stove warmed us with coal, and wood throughout the day, and evening, my grandmother put bricks in the oven, then at night she would wrap them in newspaper, and place at the bottom of our bed, we were always warm, and had good food to eat!
