खेम्पालुङ गुफा Shiva Dhara is one of the most famous beautiful natural and religeous pilgrimage sites situated at the base of Mt. Makalu in the eastern Nepal, with an altitude of alomst 4400m from the sea level. It lies in Makalu Barun National park of in Makalu Rural municipality Sankhuwasabha district of Nepal. The site is lying inside the Makalu Barun National Park along the route to Mt. Makalu Base Camp. This water fall is considered as the most scared tap of Shiva. There is a large stone cliff which has a hole in its face and through which a 500 feet tall waterfall cascades.
Every year, pilgrims trek to the site to bathe in the holy waters on a full moon. Shiva Dhara is covered with snow throughout most of the year. According to ancient tales, it was Shiva and Parvati’s playground, where they played and bathed in Spring. Today, it’s where pilgrims reach heaven and return with a sacred heart.
