Shibaten Teaches the Flute Technique on a PVC Didgeridoo

Shibaten Spirits teaches the flute technique on didgeridoo which is similar to how you play the Turkish ney flute. Filmed at the 2012 In-Didj-In-Us Didgeridoo festival by Troy Page.

That technique is also the same technique as that used on many Maori flutes that are native to New Zealand, such as the Koauau or Putorino. As a flute maker, I'd say that it works well on instruments with narrower (for flutes) bores of about 1.5-2 cm. You can also play many seashells, walnuts, etc the same way.

Yes it works on a PVC didge. Sometimes I feel it is easier on a wider bore instrument. Try several pressures including blowing very soft. Continue to reposition the airstream to find the right angle and try not to get too frustrated:)
