For 45 years I have changed my bag every 7-10 days. I notice the bags now a days have a lot of steps and parts. I will stick to the older ones! The only people that know I have an ileostomy are those I choose to tell. I also have noticed that a lot of stomas are high and seem to be hanging over the waistband. That seems inconvenient.....but it doesn't seem to be bothering those that have it high! I've been watching quite a few ostomy videos lately to see what new equipment is out there. I've come to the conclusion that I prefer the more simple...so I will stick to what I've been using all these years! But your videos are still very interesring!

First of all, I'm sorry if my English is bad. I had my two abdomen surgeries last month, the first one was failed, the stoma didn't work so in 3 days after the first one s the doctor decided to do another surgery, to fix it. I came from a country that doesn't have a proper health care system. They didn't explain anything about what I had to deal with a stoma. I was frustrated and clueless. Your video is really helpful.

Hi Emi, I love your confidence and strength. I'm only 5 weeks into my post surgery from muscle invasive bladder cancer. My Urologist/Surgeon removed all of my bladder, along with making me a ileal conduit (stoma). He also gave me a full hysterectomy & removed my lymph nodes. Thankfully he has removed all of the cancer & now all I need to do is very slowly get back to better health again. I hope your recovery is going well, lots of love from Australia 🇦🇺 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🥰🥰💙💙💙💙

I've had mine for 13 going on 14 years now. Because of my left hip level leg amputation, I've never regretted it for even one second, being that I'm paralyzed from the waist down from before birth due to spina bifida and hydrocephalus. I still love my life even though there are many activities I cannot join because of this. I received the amputation because of skin cancer on my left rump due to constant rubbing from when I used to scoot on the floor as a toddler to get from room to room. I was born in 1954 so I was middle aged before anything was done

What happens when you fall flat in your stomach? or going to the pool?
@Shieldhealthcare
@Shieldhealthcare 6 жыл бұрын
Valid questions! Generally, an ostomy bag can handle an impact like that - though if there's going to be a lot of falling (like while playing sports), one might want to look into getting a Stoma Guard. As for the pool, most ostomy bags are waterproof and it only takes a little prep to make sure there's no leaking. So sorry to hear that. I had crohns for 6 years and had mine in 1976. Once I had made up my mind to have surgery, i couldn't wait. Nearly 50 years ago. Never regretted it for one second. It gave me my life back. I know you posted 2 years ago now, but why did it have such an effect on you ?

I’m so sorry that it is upsetting you. I remember I cried when I was told I would have to have a bag, but after my surgery, I decided to change my attitude and I started to be thankful because it saved my life. I hope this helps.

The small intestine does not absorb water. So, with the Colon - which does the job of absorbing water - removed, water will go right through the small intestine. I think for those people who have to have their Colon removed a line should be placed for intravenous water.

What happens if you dont get an ostomy surgery?
@Shieldhealthcare
@Shieldhealthcare 5 жыл бұрын
Great question! It's different for everyone. Some people decide to deal with the issues that IBD or other reasons for getting an ostomy create - multiple bathroom trips and severe pain. Others find that medication can give them a quality of life that works. Some people go into remission. Other people, it's actually a choice between life and death - or as the medical community sometimes bluntly puts it - a bag or a box (as in an ostomy bag or a coffin). Everyone's story is different and it takes a team of medical professionals, family and friends to help each person make their decision.

You can refuse it, but eventually you'll be in so much pain and agony that you'll have to go to the ER, and they'll do what they have to do, they can't just let you die.

stop lecturing..its not that easy...lot of poor people in the world and weather factor too....do you have that in your mind?....and poor quality products...its a money making opportunity for doctors and companies...better raise your voice against this and save millions...

I dont understand your problem. People have drastic surgery to save their lives. (I had mine for that reason) Its not money making for pharma and doctors. I take it you have never been in ill. Let me tell you what it is like to have to have surgery. I was 21 when i had Crohns. I was in constant pain. my weight dropped from 10 1/2 stone to 7 stone. (5 1/2stone at one point) I had the sh*ts 10 + times a day. I had numerous hospitalisations and operations because of complications. After 6 years i could take no more. I ASKED for the surgery. Without the doctors and 'companies' i would be dead by now. YOU HAVE NO F-CKIN IDEA. Take your silly ideology and stick it up the part of your body you still have.
