Shift Interlock fix 2004 F150

I used this video to replace this part myself as I am not a car guy. The steps were exactly as shown, however I would mention one thing. It would help to have someone to hold the flashlight (if you need it) and preferably someone with small hands in case you did what I did and dropped the 5/16" socket down inside the console. In my case my wife was there to do both. Bottom line, GREAT VIDEO. It saved me over $350 doing it myself rather than taking it to the dealership!!!

On A center shift truck like this.... where can i find the overdrive button?

In the video U see that little black button on the TOP chrome of the shifter, right side, it says O/D

Before buying a new part try holding the shift release button tightly on the shifter while pushing the white mechanical release to cause friction on the internals. The reason this gets stuck over time is from pulling the shift button before pressing the break (designed for brake in then pull shift button). Doing so will cause the lever inside to jam and the harder you press the shift button the more itll eventually get stuck. If this doesnt work try taking the interlock apart (3 clips no tools required) and clean out any build up then lubercate the lever pins. Chances are the actuator is still good.

No that wad not my problem. Their is a transistor that had shorted out with very obvious burn marks around it. It also held out the cruise control, Overdrive button, stopped the gear selector from getting light. Once replaced it all worked again. But thanks for letting others know what else it could be.

Somehow I missed the fix. All I seen was how to unplug wiring and what size socket it is. Which , of someone can’t do minus a video , they shouldn’t be touching it.

Can you replace just that tab or do you have to replace the whole actuator?? Mine is bad and it causes cruise not to work but the whole thing is almost $200!!

Hit a junk yard. I got mine for cheap. its probably a blown transistor you can open that black box and look for burn marks you probably also lost the od button on the shift selector and possibly the lights surrounding it. If you can mess with electric components it's more likely under $5 but u need soldering iron and a multi meter to identify what else was damaged.

Will this also fix the shifter not locking in park? It has normal function, but you can move it into gear with out needing to press the brake or the button?

It should the white tab is the manual override. But if not it may be the transmission. Still a cheaper fix I'd try this first

@@alexlopez-tq4sr $13 probably cheaper online now. Or a junk yard it opens up and if you smell something burnt see scorch marks on the transistor it's bad

Myron Gorpie it's a squeeze clip that's hard to get to. Pliers help but not needed
