Deepdene Scottish Country Dancers held a social dance on 14th December 2024.
The venue was the Uniting Church Hall, Deepdene, Melbourne, Australia.
Shifftin’ Bobbins (Ormskirk, Clowes) was the final dance on the program for the night.
It is a 32 Bar Reel for 3 couples in a 4couple longwise set)
The musicians were David South, Julia Arnold, and Colin MacLeod.
As Dancers we tend to concentrate on trying to remember the sequence of the dance.
Here is an opportunity to appreciate the music.
The Dance Instructions are:
SHIFTIN’ BOBBINS
Reel for 3 couples in a 4couple longwise set
1-4 1s cross RH finish Back to Back facing 2nd place.
2s step up. 1s, 2s and 3s set as Double Triangles.
5=8 1s dance out, cast up, meet, give Nearer Hand and dance
down centre ready for
9-12 3 hands across once round: 1L Right hand with 2M &
3M. 1M Left hand across with 2L & 3L.
13-16 1s meet, with Near Hand lead down centre followed by 2s and 3s.
17-20 All turn about and with 3s leading, dance back up.
21-24 Lead by 3s all cast off to dance hands across
with opposite hand (to that used in bars 9-12).
1s finish facing up, in centre of set, ready to
25-32 1s lead up (Nearer Hand) and cast off to 2nd place improper,
then dance 1/2 figure of eight round 2s to finish in 2nd place
