Before dad passed, I remember falling asleep so easily to the sound of his Western Star CAT600 on the highway in a Semi. Laying down in the cabin then next minute I’m out, rocks you to sleep 💤

At what rpm would you recommend shifting with a c15?
@trippletex55084 жыл бұрын
I like to take them out to 1800 in the top of the box with heavy loads...All depends, if your just taking off u might just take up to 1500 1600 in bottom box then get into it in top box...In the hills keep them between 1500 to 1800 mark with the fan in when its hot..your gonna have some blokes that like letting them lug and keep the revs a bit lower but with the work I do, u gotta keep into them, start getting under 1500 when your pulling the weights ,pyro gauge starts getting in red. Hope this helps mate.

Keep shifting at about 1500 not up near the red line Better fuel economy and she'll bark/growl /hum more
@Sinister_Reaper3 жыл бұрын
He's pulling 280,000 pounds, your comment is fucking invalid, fuel economy is the least of his worries, he needs power not a bogged engine that's burning up from the egt's
@tomlowe85633 жыл бұрын
Reaper no need to swear at me- I don't appreciate it I didn't at you so why me???? Diesels work better at lower revs not high between 600 - 1200 and when you say egt's ???
@Sinister_Reaper3 жыл бұрын
@@tomlowe8563 you obviously have never done any heavy hauling or ran tankers, you need momentum, egt is exhaust gas temperature, when you pull a heavy load like this running low rpm the amount of fuel being pumped is not burning off and will slowly burn up the engine, he even mentioned that in one of the comments, shifting at low rpm works on a brand new truck with engines that were meant to be bogged down but on these older engines it doesnt work like that, if you're only pulling 70k or 80k pounds then yeah sure run at low rpm's but any type of heavy haul or running tankers with an old cat engine is gonna need those rpm's
@Darndiddlyarn3 жыл бұрын
@@tomlowe8563 I'd say this guy probably knows his truck much better than you do, 600-1200 rpm what are you driving a tug boat? My Cummins ISX liked it between 1400-1800 rpm and if I was in a holding gear on a long hill 1600-1700 rpm was on the money.
@bogged2theeyeballs6953 жыл бұрын
@@Sinister_Reaper 100% correct. Higher rpm's means increased boost and more air supplied to the engine for more complete combustion which equals lower EGT's. Over-fuelling and sustained high EGT's is death to a diesel engine. Pulling weights ( in this case three trailers and 140 tonnes) in high ambient temperatures like here in Australia, this guy knows his equipment and how to look after it. Cool, calm and collected. Top operator.

Should probably stick to a Tesla or something if you don’t like the 6 cylinder symphony of a turbo diesel
