Great video! I've been trying to decide what route to go with on my 97 318is and forced induction was a thought, but i like the reliability of having an NA car without throwing a ton of money into a supercharger or turbo kit along with tuning. And the induction sound of the M44 is great with just a cold air intake, but those ITBs just sound absolutely amazing. Im glad there's love for the 4 cylinder BMWs out there, and i Definitely will be saving up and getting some ITBs from RHD. Beautiful car by the way👌

10 yrs ago i got a e36 318ti, done a few mods to it and it was great. Yesterday I got a deal on another 318ti, without M package or something, completely stock, close to none rust for 1k. A absolutely steal! Glad I bought it :)

I also find the 318is with M44 engine a great daily drive . Value for money is excellent . Like you said parts are cheap and it's easy to work on . Was considering buying a more modern BM but decided to spend a few dollars and restore instead. Interior's tend to fall apart as the glue fails but can be repaired to a good standard with some work .

Hi. I just purchased the Racehead ITB kit from Rama for my BMW 318is and I am Wondering if you ever needed to tune up the ECU? Racehead claims that it Can be use with stock ECU but I wanted to make sure from an user I appreciate the help.

Respect for doing this. In my part of the world cars and parts are incredibly expensive (e.g. ITB kit imported and installed would cost almost as much as the whole car). So that everything I do to my M52TUB28 puts me one step behind being able to buy a modern sports car one day, and of course everyone else tells you it's pure insanity (the "just buy an M" argument).

Open Pod Filter's will not pass RWC, Put in a box and it will, from everything i know, a Clean OEM filter is best, unless you re-tune the ec I have a E46 330i s54 3.0lt motor with their vanos system to change/improve cam timing, kicks in around 4,500 rpm

Hey Man! i have an e30 with the m42 in it. im fully in love with the engine but i want a tad more out of it. ive been looking into the RHD ITB's for 3 months now (and an empty wallet) and ive been considering these. i just have a few questions, Firstly: Ecu, what happens with the mapping? is there a pre programmed chip i can order along with it? Second: Daily Driving and efficency. whats that like? how many L/100km you getting? and Lastly, i love you work man. Im in WA and im keen on doing so much with my lil e30 and making it a wonderful driver. (not that it isnt, it just needs abit more, and some tlc) (also, fully appologising for my spelling) Kind regards man. hope to hear back from you

Check out the forum link in the description for all the details, but the summary is: 1 - The ECU is closed loop, as long as the MAF/O2 sensor works it will run fine on the stock ECU 2 - I've tracked the last 60 000kms of driving economy, average for me (I live in the city) was 10L/100km, I've since dropped that to 9.6L/100km. Freeway driving showed a similar improvement from 6.8L/100km down to 6.5L/100km 3 - The kit will fit the E30 but requires some changes to the airbox so make sure you read the forum and let RHD know its for an E30 so they can help you out!

I don't see the point in running ITBs on stock ECU. You get like 25 hp gain for 2000$. Just a chip will add 10hp for max 250$ from Turner or MarkD. It is however desirable setup for any fan of motorsport

Typical things to do to the M42/M44 that is not gonna cost you a lot: lighter flywheel, chip, rear differential from auto 4.44.

High flow cat and an offset muffler for the exhaust. ITBs on the intake. I made a helmholtz resonator to handle the drone, but if you've got enough skill/money you could get equal length headers made to further reduce the drone.

How loud is the induction noise? At 5:11 and 6:41, sounded like it was recorded from under the bonnet. Still looking forward to this kit! Also what exhaust are you using?

In the cabin it is noticeably louder than the stock setup when under full load (80~85dB), but when cruising it is about the same at ~75dB. The recordings were done from under the bonnet for the most part. The exhaust is still the standard exhaust, though I use a racing muffler which I swap with the stock muffler for a bit more power when needed - but it is too loud for long trips when it is hot.

I'm planning on buying the RHD ITB kit but i have a few questions, i love a bit of induction sound but is it loud to the point of overpowering the radio and being a cop magnet? second question, according to site images the kit comes with an airbox and the ITB's but what else would i have to add? There is a link to the forum build of my car in the description if you want the long answer - the short answer is that fuel economy improved marginally, and a bit more when I built a cold air intake fed from infront of the radiator. As for drivability - torque improved across the board, so before changing the anything else the car drove better than stock across the rev range. The difference is most notable at 4500RPM though. Combined with the LSD, light flywheel and the changed final drive it is noticeably faster than the standard car, and easier to drive on the street with the better torque curve. Hope that helps!

If they're setup poorly I could see people driving with a bit of a lead foot - but really, your engine managment should inject the same fuel for the same air so fuel efficency shouldn't actually change. What does change is that you can ingest more air, so you can potentially burn more fuel. Basically, if they're setup properly fuel economy should stay the same unless you drive harder. The reason mine is slightly better is the better torque characteristic means that when I'm driving normally I'm not revving out as far.

I've had three offers in the first week with the lowest being $13500, but I enjoy the car and I'm not interested in parting with it for less. For the price, I'm still not really sure what there is that competes with it, locally anyway.
