Love this format. Tai Otoshi has been the most difficult throw for me but I'll keep trying to develop it. Left on right when I can't finish a hopping Ouchi I would normally go for an Osoto but I'll try Taio instead.

I'm 6'5" 225lbs. I like Tai Otoshi because it allows me to throw without forcing me into a deep squat for a hip throw. There is a fellow judoka who is 6'2" and 240lbs that I have had some success with Tai Otoshi on him. I certainly don't want to risk him on my knee so I make absolutely sure that I have good kazooshi before attempting the throw. Good throw for tall guys like me.

I had a training partner warn me about hitting Tao wrong because he seen people break their leg with it. So I’m glad you added the disclaimer at the end about who to hit it on.

I actually think I would prefer uncut instructions. The pauses and inflections and subtle details between might help me follow. I always find these helpful but for some reason a little weird to follow

This was really good. Eugene also made a good point about the sequence - getting kazushi first and then get your leg over quickly. You didn't speak about tori's distribution of his weight for each foot. I'd like to know your view on that.

Great video! I was actually looking for how to avoid injury doing tai otoshi with a heavier partner so I got my answer, don’t do Tai otoshi 😂 what would you suggest against a much heavier partner that defend a lot (we are both beginners)

Hmm it always amazes me how far you can initiate taio from. I'm looking at LvR and was thinking there's got to be a hop or move involved, but no, he just stepped all the way across to reach the far leg.

One question... I see lots of dropin to Knee and the weight is completely och the leg that is going to drop. Then i have really short legs and in order to reach out i need to drop and put my weight och the side that im going to drop.... I get criticised by doing that but i really do not get any reach if i stand with a equal weight distribution

I do BJJ mainly, and a clumsy tai otoshi is the only technique I have some success with from standing. I'm 200lb, so should I not be using it? 6:57 What techniques do heavyweights use?

Is the only difference between this a Tai Otoshi is whether the leg is planted or sweeping?
@Elriuhilu6 ай бұрын
This is tai otoshi, there are three other throws (I can think of) that have some similarities with this one: harai goshi, ashi guruma and (arguably) o-guruma. Which one were you thinking of?
@brockstrong4516 ай бұрын
@Elriuhilu I think at the time I meant Harai Goshi, but after learning a little more it definitely looks different.

Why isnt this throw as popular as seoi or uchimata in competition?
@devinloveridge6805 Жыл бұрын
I would disagree, I've seen a lot of tai otoshi on the international circuit
@christianpohl9563 Жыл бұрын
Seoi is one of the most popular throws all the time. Most fighter will learn this throw very early. So its normally that it will be a often use throw. Tai Otoshi is a powerful move and one of my favourites but not so easy to learn. But you can see a lots of successful fighter with tai too. Neil Adams for example
@jasonrose6288 Жыл бұрын
I think your observation is valid - it's a second tier throw in terms of popularity in high level competition. Why? I think it's quite hard to do. It's very much a timing throw. The window for tai otoshi comes and goes in an instant. Seoi nagi and uchi mata can be muscled a bit more - particularly by dropping or hopping respectively. That's useful in competition. That's my observation, anyway, from a judo casual!
@JD2jr. Жыл бұрын
those both require less giving of your back, so that may account for some
@Elriuhilu6 ай бұрын
Tai otoshi favours timing and skill, but seoi nage can be more easily brute forced if you're strong enough, and lately many judo competitors just do whatever is easiest to win, including rules-lawyering.

Love Judo and Jujitsu. However, can you create content on counters from different Martial arts from different Countries? Be cool to see different aspects pro and con on the fulcrum or multiuple fulcrums applied and how they can be broken and how to defend from Silat: Cimande, Cikalong, Pentjak, mangkabau ( Bali Silat) , Kai Lumpai, WuKung, Tong Long Pai, Choy Li Fut, Ling Sing Toy, Long Fist ...other stuff out there. I know no one can cover all of it; but I am Japanese and Chinese and I seen the counters but like all things I am a Junky and need more. Plus being Asian in America sucks when your out dating with a girl that is pretty and jealous white dudes mess with a lot of us Higashi-Kun. Mom's name was Watanabe. Fathers name was Chan. Good content and cross steps and with the head being moved to adjust the balance on the spine to throw sideways. Getting old and well I wish I were young again. Now I teach Asian Children. They will need this more than anyone else, especially Asian Males Children. I had to teach karate as it is taught in combat and not karate Do to make sure they knew that Karate is very effective. I showed my children the Kara-Te Tang Fist and how it works as the Japanese teach it in Nippon. Very devastsating indeed. Your presentation was very professional and muti-directional in application of Kazushi. Arigato. Oyasuminasai friend. Wish you a life worth a thousand years. Love Himekami too. Very inspirational music!
