I agree with the comments made by Ted and Patrick. I have played both these pianos and own a SK3 which I have difficulty pulling myself away from everyday. The GX3 is a great piano and punches way above its peers (based on price). As a classical player the SK3 is just a gem of a pleasure to express the music with its warm tone, colours, harmonics and perfect sustain… the bass, tenor and treble are all superb for creating different textures… it gives back as much as you put in and challenges your limits and never disappoints with its rewards …..,great playing Ted, your pieces demonstrated the characters, abilities and beauty of the pianos!

My SK6 arrived yesterday, replacing my GX2. I’m beyond happy . Sounds fantastic and the finish on it is outstanding. The inner rim of hard rock maple is the most gorgeous wood on a piano I’ve ever seen . The touch and feel is perfect

I wouldn’t feel guilty about playing an SK lol. I absolutely love the sound of them. I would enjoy exploring all of it’s wonderful, rich sounds.

Wonderful presentation. I am a proud Sk-3 Pyramid Mahogany owner. There is nothing not to love about this instrument. I am not sure about the other Kawai instruments, but my instrument has an aliquot implantation. I suspect it's a bar style like Steinway as opposed to a fourth string found in many high-end designs. Lets mine ring for ages with delightful sympathetic undertones. It makes a huge tonal difference. Out of curiosity, what microphones are you using?

The sound on even the smallest Shigeru Kawai SK-2 is HUGE.

I'm very surprised by your comment that the actions feel the same. When I bought my GX-6, I also played an SK-3 in the store, and the difference in keyboard feel was immediately apparent. The SK has such a perfectly regulated action, that the key-to-key consistency is remarkable. The keyboard has a more precise feel to it and the degree of control is peerless.

100% the gl line is even mellower and almost melancholic, I love it. Although the shimmer on the gl and sk trebles is really angelic and beautiful. I like my pianos sounding darker but still clear and punchy. Hard to beat the gx and gl line in those respects.

Another great video. Like you said that one would need to go into a store and play both. To my ear (through KZbin and IPad speakers) the sound of the GX3 was more pleasing than the SK3, but then again, my taste may be more pedestrian than classical. All these instruments are high quality instruments and are light years beyond what Mozart or Chopin had to play on. While the Sk over the Gk line has extra embellishments like more exotic wood, hand made, and other extra little things, it doesn't mean that it will sound better to the player or listener. It really comes down to personal preference. At the end of the day, if one prefers the sk and has the money, then it is a no brainer. But even if you have the money for an sk, if your ears and hands tell you the gx is the way to go then that's a no brainer too. All these pianos are super high quality thanks to technological progress in manufacturing. Your preference for the gx makes perfect sense. I prefer the gl line over the gx line, and like the gl line as much as the sk line. I love these piano videos, they are like my Netflix binge.

Ted made the GX sound better, but having played both the SK and GX, I know the SK should have sounded much better. I was puzzled until he stated that he was more comfortable on the GX. I experience the opposite. A GX frustrates me b/c I own a Steinway B. I feel right at home on an SK.

It's true it is intimidating to play in front of people with my limited skill especially when you hear other more experience players. Honestly, that's when you wish you knew how to play some Chopin or Debussy, not the boast, just to not look like a fool and not do something cringy with missing notes. And yes, you are right Ted. I'm a dreamer.

everyone starts somewhere, and everyone has different masteries. if you are in a piano store buying an SK be very proud if that even thiugh you can’t play Chopin. you have your finances in check to br sble to buy a 70k piano. yes you can’t play like the sales person both of your focus was different in life and both should be proud of their own focus and mastery, none is better than the other.

Beautiful pianos, however, I Iearned a lesson a few years ago, when a talented pianist played my digital piano (a Clavinova 307): it sounded a completely different piano! The piano you choose should be not far from your skills, otherwise it would be useless, a good investment, but if you do not plan to have the highest skills, the best great piano can be almost useless. I would recommend the Shigheru piano only to professional musicians!

Yes, a professional can make most any piano sound ok. But I disagree, a high end piano can lift the amateur to levels they wouldn’t achieve otherwise.

In my opinion it'd be hard to tell GX from Shigeru by blind test~ Only the player will know the difference~ Yamaha CX and SX might be the same I presume~~ if there's blind test it will be hard to tell which is which~~:) Moreover, the tuning problem is another issue~~

the only way to test these pianos is to get a classical pianist, who can test the pianos to its limits! touch, balance, colour etc ...!not the shitty lounge tunes that he plays! hit harder?! he never talks baout colour, soft sound balancing etc ...!

Just two clowns clowning around like kids on two amazing pianos. They need to play some Chopin or Mozart to compare these two pianos. I have a Kawai GL40 in my apartment I just bought brand new.

I have a unusual question. I am handicaped and can't use my right toes for sustain. Can the sustain be made so it is on the right and left pedal?
