You should carry small dogs up the stairs whenever you can. My dog has severe back problems now because i let him do this. It catches up to them with age.

@MikkiShihTzu that's exactly what my pup did. He hated being carried up and down the stairs, so I let him do it. One day, his back muscles cramped up on him, and I had to take him to the hospital to get muscle relaxatants. His back felt like a rock. Be careful with your fur baby!

Build a ramp with soft carpet on the stairs! 👍 My Shih poo got back problems partly from climbing to many stairs and died last year, nine years old because of this. But he had a wonderful life with a lot of time spent in nature here in northern Sweden with mountains and he was proud to be able to follow me everywhere. Of course shorter walks suited for short legs. I only carried him up the rocky parts on our walks. Let him live life confident and strong and let him go before he suffers and stops being himself because of an old body. That is the benefit of this family member, we can choose when it is best for the dog to go! My pup Smushi injured his back when playing with a young pup (whippet dog) when he was nine years old and still playing like a young dog. Because he had a stiff back already before the accident and the vet said he could live a couple of years on pain killers but never walk normal again - I let him live life for two months on pain killers. He felt good, got a lot of rest and played with me a sunny day last fall (20th October) and was put down in my lap outside on a bench by a river. A dog is worth living to the fullest with their responsibal human who prioritizes the dog’s wellbeing before their own fear of loosing their best friend. He is still with me in spirit every day 💖

Identical to my Romeo who I lost recently to ivdd. Surgery would have been $10,000 😢😢 he was my best friend and my heart. I never heard of ivdd and with I had. My Romeo jumped up and down on the couch and bed and he loved the stairs which most don't. I have a feeling of guilt I don't think I will ever get over. He was full of energy and love and woke up one morning and his left rear leg was paralyzed MRI showed ivdd shortly after he woke up and both rear legs were paralyzed and he could no longer potty. Your little one is adorable
