Veteran opener Shikhar Dhawan, who is out of the Indian cricket team, has announced his retirement from all formats of cricket on the morning of 24 August. The 38-year-old batsman confirmed this news by posting a video of himself on social media. In the posted video, Dhawan said, 'Hello everyone. Today I am standing at a point from where looking back only memories are visible and looking forward the whole world. I always had only one destination. To play for India. That also happened. For this I am thankful to many people. My family comes first in this. I am also thankful to my childhood coach Tarak Sinha ji and Madan Sharma ji.
Not only this, the Indian veteran player, famous as 'Gabbar' in the cricket world, has also praised his teammates. He says that I got their full support and love during the match. Along with this, Shikhar Dhawan also announced his retirement. He said, "I announce my retirement from international and domestic cricket."
Dhawan looked very peaceful during his retirement. He said, "Now that I am announcing my retirement, I have a strange peace in my heart that I played a lot for my country." During this, he also thanked BCCI and DCCA. Along with this, he also gave a lovely message to his fans. Shikhar Dhawan said, "Thank you for giving so much love." Left-handed opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan got a chance to debut in international cricket in the year 2010 from the Indian cricket team when he got a chance to play in the ODI series against Australia in the month of October. After this, Shikhar Dhawan did not look back and he got a chance to play in 34 Tests, 167 ODIs and 68 T20 matches from Team India. Dhawan scored 2315 runs in Test cricket at an average of 40.61, in which he also played 7 centuries and 5 half-century innings. Apart from this, Shikhar Dhawan scored 6793 runs in ODIs at an average of 44.11, which includes 17 centuries and 39 half-century innings. At the same time, he scored 1759 runs in 68 T20 innings at an average of 27.92.
With retirement from domestic cricket, Dhawan will no longer be seen playing in the IPL. He is counted among the legendary players of IPL, in which Shikhar Dhawan has scored 6768 runs in 222 matches at an average of 35.07, in which he has 2 centuries and 51 half-century innings to his name.
