I'm sure we all have watched being Indian videos with different cities(esp delhi and Mumbai) but I've got to say that this video actually gave me the feel of being an Indian. People are so laid back and down to earth with no ego or attitude. We all have got to learn a lot from them. Thank you shillong. I hope other states try to follow North East, the pride of India. Every place has it's own advantage and disadvantage , North East is like One of the most ignored region by our own country as if we are not the part of India 🙂.

People are good, in Shillong. Some are not. The question is what makes Shillong a cool city? I have my take on it. First of all, Shillong is a small city. So if you are born and raised here or spend a few years of college life, you literally can make friends all over the city. That said, your friend circle is great. Secondly, people are cool in terms of their dressing sense and fashion. Dating, socialising, and fine hangout spots like MOT, Dylan's cafe, Jeevs, Shillong cafe, Etc., offer enough space to catch up with friends in this small city. Apart from this, locals have a lot of places to choose from. Ever a feeling of respite comes to their mind, people drive of to the outskirts of the city, away from all the noise to find them lost amidst nature. And these places are numerous in number. You can literally be mind blown if you dive into all the beautiful places of attraction Shillong has to offer. Thirdly, music, concerts and sports have lately united the entire northeast together. People in Shillong are greatly inclined towards western music. Bollywood isn't so famous, but yeah it is liked. Football is mainly played and followed by all and sundry, which I find is an enough cool thing. Lastly, Shillong is more cooler than any other state in India because it has a homegrown culture where we respect women (not so popular in other parts of India). The only way to know how awesome Shillong is, is by staying here. Once you get into the daily affairs of Shillongite life, you realise that we all have too much thing in common which makes us one. Shillong's architecture reminds me of the buildings in Cameron Highlands, Bukit Larut or Fraser's Hill in Malaysia, or even Loei province in Thailand where the Khasi pine is the provincial tree. Indeed Northeast India has more in common by way of culture with Southeast Asia, though rather malignant stereotypes of India and Indians still exist here. As for the chap who complained about the people of the tribes bullying him, i strongly believe such treatment may not be commonly experienced had he shown more interest in the culture and interests of the local people. Unfortunately, as I have experienced in my travels to India, many who live in or whose families are from the larger cities of India, tend be fairly ignorant, and do not seem interested in learning of other cultures, unless they feel that they can profit from this knowledge. Ignorance compounded by mutual hostility is what breeds conflict. This is my opinion on the matter and by no means is it cut and dried. The roads seem perfect for a hillclimb race (cronoscalata) or even a motorcycle race similiar to the Isle of Man TT. As Shillong's sons and daughters seem adept at stunting on a motorcycle, I am sure they would relish a chance at a TT. It could showcase Shillong to the rest of India.

Mizoram has a vast opportunity in tourism. Mizoram needs a exposure. I saw few resorts, on the way to meliriat. A medicine village is also thr on Aizawl Lunglai route. Not many ppl know about such things. And the most rare thing in Mizoram is, shops without shopkeeper. If you like to buy anything put the money on the provided box. I really appreciate the honesty of mizos.

Shops without shopkeepers exist in Sabah and Sarawak as well. Indeed, the hornbill is the Malaysian national bird and is important to the Iban tribe. The Murut tribe practice the Magunatip dance which is similiar to the cheraw dance found Mizoram.

I lived in shillong close to 3 years. Wow, what a beautiful life it was. You always feel so fresh and active. Everyone, be it males or females everyone is dressed so well. Restaurants always remained full with young crowd. There were good number of music beat groups. so ofen there used to be Jam sessions and dinner and dance programs. Communities like khasi, Garo, jaintia, mizos, naga, Marwari and assamese live together in shillong. Shillong is really Scotland of east in true sense. Game Teer was very popular. I really liked the tea prepared by roadside women tea sellers. The famous instructions like "What biah hapo kali." "Wat di cigarette" "ka kikti shapoh". I always loved to have fruits in fruits market specially Oranges during winters. I always enjoyed my visits to Captain Hunt's distillery on the Cherrapunji road. Love You and miss You Shillong.

You guys should DEFINITELY come to MIZORAM but do so only on winter ie., 1st to 31st December, i dont want you guys to miss the winter scene here cuz Mizorams got "the best" winter scene in North east, if not the whole of india... Hi there. I'm a big fan of BEING INDIAN, and I request you to come to gangtok, capital of SIKKIM. Its one hell of a town. From food-fashion-nature-night life-hangouts-market-ethnicity and many many more things. I am a student of SMIT (Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology) Majhitar , Sikkim. This is a huge and well known university in entire north east,you guys can also host a show with the students of SMIT, it will be one hell of a show,our campus is huge, education, college life etc...I'm sure BEING INDIAN will see another big success in you tube.

#Beingindian & #Sahil Khattar I have gone through most of the comments below this video are positive and encouraging. But One thing is very clear that north-east people do not get the response what they should deserve....that is 100 % truth ..one must understand that these conclusion I am not drawing just by seeing this video but I have been living in Agartala, Tripura from last 3-4 months and I was living these people from 2008 when I was in Mangalore for 2 years than I resided for 4 years in Mumbai with north east people in college during my MFSc and PhD. What I request people like you Sahil or other social video makers you frequently make your visit to this farthest place of our country so that these people should not feel isolated. Though now connectivity between north-east to rest of country is being given the priority Hence I hope things will be improving in the years to come.

Most of the people in India doesn't know about North East. Let me tell you a story that really happened to me. One day I went out to eat some street food in Kolkata. I talked with the cook where i was eating. I was really very friendly with him. So he asked me where I lived in? I said Assam . And he replied me,'is it in Bihar?' . I was shock to hear that. Then told him about it. Though Assam and West Bengal are neighbouring state still he don't know about it.
