In my opinion Mao Shimada doesn’t remind me of Mao Asada at all. Asada had a lyrical and light balletic style that was so beautiful to watch. Shimada’s style is quite the opposite, explosive, dynamic and powerful.

The only thing they have in common is the "mao" in their name. Mao Shimada is an athlete, not an artist. That said she is only 15 so she has years to develop. Her line and layback spin positions need work. She skates like a junior skater, but with her technical prowess she has a lot of potential.

Totally deserved! A fun, beautiful program with wonderful skating skills and jumps. The commentary though was annoying and at times even disturbing throughtout the whole competition.

I watched it at 0.25 speed, that 3F had a deep inside edge take off so I have no idea where this ! came from or why she lost points for it.

@@e.i.3077 i doubt that. None of the judges were from ROK, and they gave jia too low scores for them to give hee an advantage, and same as yuseong

@@valievafan_13k78 That’s because she was skating after Mao so the low score was most likely preemptive and Shin didn’t deliver her first jumping pass as was expected so the scores couldn’t have been inflated the way the judges may or may not have otherwise done. If Sochi taught us anything is that judges don’t have to be from the home country to follow the home advantage.

Amazing as always! I’m so happy her spins are as beautiful as always even with the growth spurt she has been going through. Her running edge is also excellent. Tbh I think her ! on the flip was uncalled for. As for the commentator. Meh. Not great but better than Johnny and Tara.

They should allow the 3A in the short program. What a disadvantage to only be allowed to perform it in the free program after exerting so much effort in training to use that jump to her advantage.
