Wow, all these negative no-hows ! This is an excellent knot that just takes a little time to master. It is the smoothest there is for casting, much smaller than the double uni, GT or cats paw and more secure than the FG. You cannot tie it faster without a bobbin as some dropkick commented. Amazing how people are quick to condemn something they have never tried (or not able to master). For those of us that use this knot and can tie it quickly, I guess we'll continue to enjoy the benefits of the PR and the rest won't !

You're 100% correct. These comments are silly about how a uni to uni is somehow the ultimate line to line connection. It's fine for some applications but it's useless for others. Nobody is tying this knot faster or even close to as well without the bobbin. There are less expensive bobbins than this one but it's necessary. I use it to end splices with hollow core and it's incredible. Basically just tying this knot over the splice to ensure the line doesn't ride up but it's so thin even serving can't do it better.

That was a good informative video on using the bobbin mate. Amazed at all the negative comments though... if it's too expensive to buy Shimano then look on ebay/Amazon. Dozens of off brands for less. If you can tie an FG knot faster than this video then why the f#$k are you trolling youtube for easier methods? And this isn't the FG knot btw.

I always use PR knot for my braided / fluorocarbon line combination and the best way to do this is using a bobbin. It will be cumbersome at first but you will get used to it. Very thin, streamlined, and strong knot.

The PR knot gets close to 100% line strength. A uni to uni join loses about 50% of the lines strength. There is no comparision. A uni to uni is a reliable connection, but not the best for strength or for casting profile. A well tied PR knot should be tied the night before. Uni to uni or 4 turn surgeons good for when the fish are biting.

I'm a woman, I can tie the uni splice in a minute or less. Tie it, Lick the line, easy lubricant, pull, you are done. I could of bring in a 30lbs yellow tail by the time he's done with the video.

Uni slip knot to tie leader to hook/swivel/lure/jig, double uni to tie leader to braid. Alberto knot to tie thick leader to thin braid. There, that's what will do the job for most fishermen. Unless if you catching pei tuna Marlin ofc
