Thanks for posting this video. The best part, for me, was learning that the fish I grew up referring to as "Mangrove Snapper" in Florida is called a "jack" in Australia. Aside from that it was a very informative video. I've fished bait-casters a lot in the past but not so much for inshore saltwater fishing. I've mostly used spinning reels for this type of fishing but have been wanting to try a good casting setup. My purpose for even watching this video was to try to decide on which size Shimano casting reel to pair with a rod I recently picked up. It is 7 ft St. Croix Triumph Inshore Medium Fast rod (8-17 lbs). I'll use this combo for inshore saltwater fishing... mostly for Speckled Sea Trout and Puppy Drum in North Carolina. Based on this video, I'm pretty sure I'll go with a Conquest DC in the 100 size. Thanks again.

Brilliant Josh! Thanks for doing this. Great to get an insight for each reel & combo. Just what I’ve been looking for. Almost impossible to find believe it or not. I’ve still got the Calcutta TE’s that came out in about 2004 I think. Still beautiful strong, smooth reels that are still going strong! My favourite is a Calcutta 200 TE DC. Absolutely brilliant reel and am now looking at either a 100 conquest DC HG and maybe a Calcutta 200 HG both mainly for light & heavy vibing respectively. Once again many thanks mate!

Legit watched this 5 times now. 😂 Got me a BFS, paired to a Yamaga Blue current III 7’8”. If you dont know, Yamaga is another one of those brands that’s so much cheaper getting directly from Japan. Needless to say, incredible brand and sick rods. Thanks for the video, love the channel, Josh!

@Honestly your arsenal covers a lot of situations already, and Yamaga is not super strong in the bait casting segment for fresh water (compared to Megabass, Dobyns, Loomis etc). There are some very interesting light sticks though, as well as offshore jigging/bottom fishing rods. However I do use spinning gear a lot, so I’ve done something similar with Yamaga to what you’ve done here. Ultralight, docks, rocks, surf, estuary.. got myself covered pretty well for my land based fishing. Have not found a dud yet

Bait tackle store underwood has some amazing bfs rods...

@@fishinjosh They have tail walk rods which are Japanese made.. $280-$300 for a trout feerique. Have caught over 100 bass last season in shallow creeks on the 5'2. Biggest was 57cm... If you are looking for a rod for real tight places and heavy cover to flip frogs or lures under they have the right gear. Great to support our local Aussie tackle stores. Yes it's cheaper to buy on digitaka but that's money out of our economy and it's harder to get a replacement or refund. Ivan and Correy at the bait tackle store are really great with customers in that sense. You should also check out the craze joystick glass rods they sell. You will not break them...

@@samasimOFsh agree 100% mate! I buy all my rods here anyway, it’s just the reels I’ve brought in from digi and most of the reason behind that is those models aren’t in Aus anyway
@samasimOFsh4 ай бұрын
Definitely still ok to buy from digitaka brother and I definitely agree especially with the cost of living going through the roof. I still had to buy the vanquish and all the Calcuttas from there anyway 😎👍 Stupidly Shimano Australia will get sued if they bring in certain models. They will never be able to bring the vanquish to Australia because "vanquish" is a trademarked name in Australia. It's really shocking how we get the crumbs in Australia or whatever they can't sell over in America Asia or Europe. Hardly any range to go with the bfs when Shimano has the entire Cardiff range, I feel sorry for the Australian reps sometimes... I did however rub it in at AFTA this year when I showed the reps all the photos of trout and bass... I told them to bring in the Calcutta bfs when it first came out. After a year suddenly there is a market and still not sure why they aren't bringing the SE in.
