Just an all around good Reel for Bluegill and 2 to 3 lb Bass . A good Reel to have in your Arsenal .

2nd Chance tackle inspired me to repair, maintain, clean and lube over a dozen name brand spinning reels; Daiwa, Shakespeare, Shimano, Zebco, Penn and Pinnacle. One thing is certain about this gentleman’s reel maintenance expertise; proper care of our fishing gear will give us many years of enjoyable use. I would not want to store a reel after I had dunked it in a body of water. Three of the rear drag spinning reels I serviced had heavy corrosion at the shaft and drag components and rusted bearings would not turn. Thank you Dennis.

I don’t know if I agree awith your comment about the limitations of drag on larger saltwater rear drag reels. I own two kinds that I promise can match or better the max drag they have over many front drag reels. Both reels I have contain at least 14 drag washers. I caught my largest saltwater fish in my life with one of these reels. The two I have include three Shimano SSG 7000 reels and a Daiwa 9000RD reel. Based on my personal experience I think these two models can hold their own with almost any front drag spinning reel in saltwater. You know why I don’t like fast-cast reels. I’m also not a fan of reels put together with a large U-clip. I know reels like this Shimano are great for some kinds of fishing. I have a few smaller rear drag reels that I enjoy using in some circumstances. Thanks for sharing how to work on these reels especially how to properly align the fast-cast feature. I’m heading to the coast tomorrow for a week of fishing and fun with my entire family. I hope the weather cooperates and the fishing is good. - Chris

The FX4000 was introduced in the mid 1990s and revised in 2003 with eh FX4000 FA and RA models - Dennis
