I still remember getting my first Shimano with SVS brakes. I thought putting the brake pins arms DOWN turned the brakes on. It's the opposite, pull the pins UP to turn them on.

I just picked up 2 base slx 151 combos for $200 total on sale. These are the best combos I have ever touched under $200 per reel. Not fancy by any means but very reliable and fun.

I own the the SLX,and SLX Xt ,I bought them both this year,and they've been really,really good.I bought the SLX combo,which was far too good to pass up,then bought the XT for the extra brake to to lessen the over run. Really good video Gramps 👍🏻👍🏻

Got the mgl in 8 gear ratio for topwater. I’ve never loved a reel more. Gonna get a 7 gear ratio for my lipless crank baits.

Love my regular all purpose MH SLX combo and put it through heavy paces this past season. I have an MGL and an XT on the way that I’m looking forward to trying out. The AFLC Black Friday two combo deal is awesome but I’m going to step up a tiny bit and pair them with Dobyns Furys. I am curious about the DC’s. Are they nice and cast further or is it just cool to hear that DC sound?

I find the DC's to be most advantageous when dealing with the wind or crosswinds or for newer anglers who haven't spent a ton of time with baitcasters to know who to adjust their brakes to match the line/weight of bait.

i just got my 2022 SLX DC XT 70 (6.2:1). and im sure its going to be great for MOST of what im going to be doing, but i was wondering if u think its capable of casting a 1.5 oz swim bait? and if its also good for punching (flipping) heavy weeds if i wanna put it on my heavy rod? if u think i should get another reel for swims and punching, what do u think of the Lew's KVD LFS 7.5:1 / 8.3:1? unless u know of a better reel for roughly the same price. any info or rod/reel suggestions would be a huge help as im still really new to this :D

I really haven't gotten into swimbaits yet, even though I plan to throw more this year. I absolutely LOVE the Lew's KVD LFS, I think it's the best bang for the buck reel out there, along with the SLX line. I do know the new 2022 SLX Swimbait rods are VERY popular, as American Legacy Fishing can't keep them in stock, but I plan on having one by spring time.

hey JT (my SLX guru), i'm having an issue with my slx dc. the tension knob seems to be malfunctioning (regardless of how much i turn it either way, it doesn't change the tension). how do i fix this? thanks for any and all advice~

I'm no guru, that's for sure. Have you taken it apart recently? I did that once and ended up having a small piece of fishing line get in their and took it back apart and got it to fit back in correctly. I know you're supposed to open the tension knob ball the way when you open the side plate and then close it.
