I have both the 16 and the 12 and they are a joy to fish. One thing that I love is when I have live bait and the lever has so many settings that I let the bait go out some and then a few clicks to keep him in place and not go into some rocks or around a structure. It’s Shimano smooth and the retrieve is awesome. I mostly target Mutton Snapper and Tuna so it is more than enough power. I have a friend who uses it on a trolling setup and it drags the wahoo in the boat no problem.

In case you guys are wondering the speedmaster 2 is equivalent to the Daiwa size 40 conventional. I don't get why these reviews never compare sizes between reels of different brands because it is very helpful to know especially when you don't know how big a size 12 is or size 40 or a size 16 or size 60 from different brands.

Living right on Lake Michigan, how do you think it would work with trolling salmon or walleye? I am used to level winds.

You show me a salmon that needs 600 yards of 60lb braid and 40lbs of drag. Stop it. Never in a million years will you need tuna numbers to stop a salmon. You need 15.lbs of drag MAX and 300 yards MAX of 30lb braid.

Perfect for west coast tuna; live bait W/sinker rig, flat falls. Too heavy to cast all the time but if you wanna cast I’m sure it will

It's too big too heavy. I have the size 12 paired up with a black diamond and the reel is on the heavier side. I would aim for like a torium 20. Smaller more compact and holds almost the same amount of line.
