Here in Philippines, its so easy and so common to find replacement chainring for M5100. Me im using 38T asymentrical 96bcd alloy 7075 DECKAS brand on my Chainring. Because the 32T steel stock was too slow.

LOL I usually don't even bother greasing the crankset spindle because the BB cups fit so tight against the spindle that it just squeegees the grease off when you insert them. I'll put a little grease on the spindle closest to the spider, then once I it insert put some grease on the other side that the crank arm slips onto. I'm eventually gonna switch out my cheap IXF crankset for a actual Shimano crankset but for now the IXF has worked great. I did replace the IXF BB with a Shimano MT800 Deore BB last week though.

Great video. I'm looking to replace my M5100-1 crankset for something lighter. Good to know the M8100 or M7100 is an option.

Yea I’ve been pretty happy with the cranks

That bottom bracket is gonna wear out the spindle on the new XT crankset. Shimano BBs have a plastic sleeve on the inside covering the inner bearing race because Shimano spindles are not hardened where the bearing races sit. When combining Shimano cranksets with other BBs, because of tolerance mismatch they often wear where the bearings sit.

Sorry about the delayed response, I have reached out to a few bike mechanics and a few folk on KZbin that deal with shimano parts about the plastics sleeves and the all around answer which I suspected to be correct is to grease the spindle well. I can tell you that the tolerance between the xt cranks and the wheelsmfg bb have a very close and tight fit. I am waiting for a response from shimano and wheelsmfg to get their response on this is concern. I will update as soon as I get their email. Thank you for the comment and info.

im planning to do a XT m8100 crank to my deore m5100 is that compatible or some issues? honest feedback please thank you i wanna use a lighter crank like xt not the m5100 deore crank

As long as the spindle length and diameter is the same, shouldn’t be an issue. Ie boost, non boost, super boost width. I would measure your chainline befor starting to get a reference of where the chain line needs do be. Park tools has a good video on how to find chain line

Nice video. Would this XT Xt m8100 work on a 10 speed M4100 cassette? I want to change my crank to 32t on my '22 Marlin 7, but i was under the impression that i can only use the M5100 crank (the one you replaced) because the M8100 is for 12 speed cassettes.

Hey that stupid little plastic piece on the left hand crank. The one that sits kinda between the 2 bolts that squeeze it together. Cant get that to go down. Any tips for that dumb thing?
@ridedirtymtb9938 Жыл бұрын
The crank arm might not be where it needs to be. There’s a small hole on the spindle where the that piece fits into.

Hi MTB Biker does compatible to my Giant Talon 1 10 speed cassette? Planning to change it w/ M5100 crankset but when I see your video its best to change it w/ M8100 OR M7100? Pls. advise and thanks for your help.
@ridedirtymtb99382 жыл бұрын
5100 is a great crank. Only difference is that’s the m8100 and m5100 will be lighter and the chainring is direct mount vs the spider type on the 5100. They should both work. It all depends on how much you want to spend. Keep remember to check your chainline and make sure you buy the right cranks (boost vs no boost)

Hi, I have 11 speed drive train, my chain is Xtr HG-901 11 speed, is it compatible to FC-M8100-1, since this crankset is designed for 12 speed?
