The second time I went to Simla after my October 1962 college trip was seven nyears later, in late december, 1969. This time I went alone, and had just turned 26. I took the Frontier Mail from Bombay to Delhi, and the Kalka Mail from Delhi to Kalka. As it was december, the train journey across the cool plains of North India was very enjoyable. At Kalka I took the "toy train" up to Simla. Upon arrival I found some snow on the ground. But there had been only one light snowfall, so I vowed to return again later in the winter.

It was not till later January, 1973, that I was able to make my third and last trip to Simla. This time there had been a heavy snowfall before I arrived, and Simla was indeed under a mantle of snow! It was still called Simola (and not Shimla) and had not yet become the destination of noisy college students. It still retained a great deal of the ambience of the Raj era. But I also explored the lower bazar where the native inhabitants of Simla lived. After going down several rows of stone steps I came upon a local restaurant that served the most delicious chicken biryani I have ever eaten in my long life (I am 81 now and living on the other side of the world. Never leave home!!! You can never go back!) So during my remaining six days in Simla I skipped lunch and had dinner at about 6 pm. The biryani was served on a lare silber thali and the chicken simlply melted in my mouth.

This is heart touching to know you travel to Shimla long back and I can sense you miss it a lot. Nevertheless you can always visit. I had chhola bhatura at one of Punjabi restaurants and that was something I tasted and still remember its taste. Guess the same is with you for biryani, thats what I love about travelling to these places and embrace memories later rest of the years. ❤️ 🙌

I went to Simla in October 1962 on a college trip from Elphinstone College, Bombay. I had been to Hill Stations before, but they were tropical hill stations in Maharashtra state, lile Matheran nand Lonavla at ony twto thousand feet. The highest was mahableshwar at 4,500 feet, and the best was Manachgani at four thousand feet. But Simla , at seven thousand feet in the Himalayas was the first time I saw pine trees and other conifers like the grand Daevdar (Deodars). I was 18 years old, and fell madly in love with Simla! As it was october, it was the off season and not at all crowded. We stayed at the old YMCA. I vowed to return again in winter in order to see Simla under a mantle of snow. I had never seen snow, and after my October visit to Simla, I dreamed of seeing snow in distant, hot andnhumid Bombay.

One of beautiful video as described , shooted and narrated about Shimla. It's very difficult to explained within 20 minutes. But you done it very beautifuly. But you escaped inner beauty of the church. Iam visiting Shimla since 1993. I would suggest all subscribers to visit Shimla from 6th June to 11th June as there is All India drama and dance compitition by the artists from different parts of India. Visiters can enjoy plays at Geity theatre free of cost and dance performance at Kali Bari auditorium free of cost.
