I still remember my 12 year old self getting hyped for this movie sometime back in June 2016. Really helped me go through the entirety of my first days of high school, without a computer, without Spore, without the thing that brought me happiness whenever I came home from studying. 7 years later, Shin Godzilla's still a hit everywhere, including Japan. One of my favorite Godzilla movies after Godzilla KOTM and Godzilla Vs Kong.

First Godzilla movie I saw was 1998. Of course, I was eight years old. I fucking loved it. Even the new western Monsterverse flics pale in comparison to that movie. And Shin blows ALL of them out of the water. And Minus One is like a planet-killing satellite 3 seconds before impact.

Shin Godzilla is so much more terrifying than any other Godzilla film I've seen. you get such a strong feeling of what it would be like standing in the streets witnessing this incomprehensibly large/imposing creature. the evolution forms are super interesting and although it isn't the best CGI on a technical level from the series, to me, it is the most vivid, realistic and creepy take on the creature's design.

And yeah the second half of the movie's cgi kinda fell off, perhaps due to budget issues, but the couple photorealistic shots in the first half of the movie were really impressive along with the soundtracks, magalophobia kicked in instantly when I first saw it. I am very glad that toho is still making their own godzilla movies with their unique visuals, because i am really not a fan of flashy cgi slop that the most recent monsterverse has become.

I remember when this first trailer came out, I was awestruck. The way this Godzilla looked, silence with nothing but the foreboding song "Persecution of the Masses" setting the tone. One of the best trailers ever.

The theater I went too had the rights to show it but it was broadcast from TOHO through a satellite that was connected to the dish on top of the theater where I saw this film. Honestly, I think this is the most unsettling version of Godzilla. The effects look amazing. The way they move the tail makes it look menacing. The atomic breathe scene was NUTS. Idk I think this is a great Godzilla movie, though

I was very young when I saw the trailer. I remember I was at my gramma’s house; she was the person who introduced Godzilla to me. I saw the trailer and turned to her, saying “Is this real?” It was. Over the years after its release, I would have mixed feelings about the film, but over the past year I have grown more of an appreciation for the movie and I think it is one of the greatest TOHO G movies ever, not the absolute greatest, but in my top 10.

Yes it’s quite good and really the only one of a kind. While Minus One had the cool period piece setting, this had the fully modern Japanese city setting with a different kind of creepy Godzilla with forms. Maybe the most powerful as well.

Can't believe it's been five years aka half a decade since this launched. It's a shame the movie feels unfinished because while they managed to hibernate Godzilla, the writer/director stated, the sequel would see the humanoid-like tail creatures overrun the Earth, and then Shin Godzilla particles would leave the planet, spawn new worlds in a Big Bang scenario, and new (Godzilla) life would start anew on the new planets that were formed. Total Evangelion-style plot line, but that's because the writer/director wrote Evangelion, of course. I want to see the completed evolution.
