To give a very condensed history lesson, Godzilla 1954's special effects director, Eiji Tsuburaya, would go on to make the 1966 series "Ultra Q", which was immediately followed up by "Ultraman", which breathed new life into the still young "hero tokusatsu" medium and genre. 1971, Shotaro Ishinomori created "Kamen (Masked) Rider" to massive success, and would create "Himitsu Sentai Goranger (Secret Squadron Five-Ranger)" in 1975, which would start the even more popular "Super Sentai" franchise. And of course, in 1993, "Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger (Dinosaur Squadron Beast-Ranger)" would be adapted as "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" in the US. The original 1984 Voltron was an adaptation of two Japanese anime: Beast King GoLion and Armored Fleet Dairugger XV (man, Japanese titles are so cool). They were likely influenced by 70s robot series like Toei's Spider-Man, Battle Fever J, Combattler V, Voltes V, Mazinger Z, Mobile Suit Gundam, and more.

Side note. Toei's Spider-Man is cannon to the Spider verse and has cross overs in to other sentai... making both Sentai and Kamen rider part of the Marvel mutlivers

In that motorcycle chase scene, when shocker detonates the trucks, those are miniatures! Even though modern Tokusatsu has moved to using more and more CGI, it’s nice to see some practical effects still being used and still looking great.

"Shin Kamen Rider シン・仮面ライダー (2023) is a remake based of the original title "Kamen Rider" (1971 - 1973), the first Kamen Rider title in Kamen Rider series. Produced to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Kamen Rider. Kamen Rider was also the foundation for the birth of Super Sentai series (Which later Super Sentai adapted to US into Power Rangers). The 1st entry of Super sentai title was Himitsu Sentai Gorenger (1975 - 1977). Kamen Rider series and Super Sentai series were created by the same company which is TOEI COMPANY, Japan. Classic Kamen Rider series titles known for using Insect theme for Kamen Rider designs, like locust, bettles, grasshopper, dragonfly, etc (except classic Kamen Rider Amazon title series in 1974 which used chameleon design). Later on Kamen Rider begin more and more often adapting another animals and not only insects, included dragon, bat, etc. Classic Kamen Rider characters also were mostly about humans who get turns into Super cybernetic augmented human cyborgs by the evil organization in order to be used to rule the world, but ended up turn against their creators. And Kaijin 怪人 , is a term used for humanoid monsters (Kamen Riders were also part of Kaijin). in "Kamen Rider" (1971) and also "Shin Kamen Rider" (2023, the Remake), there were 2 main Protagonist Kamen Riders. They are : 1. Hongo Takeshi which is Kamen Rider Ichi-go 仮面ライダー1号 (Kamen Rider Serial number 01) / Hopper-1 . Kamen Rider Ichi-go has 15 t Punch Power, Kicking Power 11.3 - 22.5 t , and Maximum Jump Height: 20 m. His amen Rider type is Batta バッタ (Locust). 2. Ichimonji Hayato which is Hopper-2 / Kamen Rider Ni-go 仮面ライダー2号 (Kamen Rider Serial number 02)/ / Hopper-2. Kamen Rider Ni-go has Punching Power: 25 t , Kicking Power: 30 t , and Maximum Jump Height: 15.3 m. His Kamen Rider type is also Batta バッタ (Locust). About Saban's Power Rangers titles. they all were American Adaptations based of original Japan's Super Sentai titles made by Toei Company. All Power Rangers titles reused stock footages, costumes, and lot of properties that were used on the original Japan's Super Sentai titles, to the latest one. 1. "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" (Season 1-2 in 1993 - 1995), was borrowed from the 16th Super Sentai titled "Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger" (1992-1993). The 2nd season Mighty Morphin Power Rangers used some elements, mechs, and monsters from "Gosei Sentai Dairanger" (1993). 2. Mighty Morphin Alien Rangers (in 3rd Season of MMPW) (1995 - 1996), was borrowed from the 18th Super Sentai titled "Ninja Sentai Kakuranger" (1994-1995) 3. "Power Rangers Zeo" (in in the 4th Season of MMPR in 1996), was borrowed from the 19th Super Sentai titled "Chouriki Sentai Ohranger" (1995 - 1996). 4. "Power Rangers Turbo" (5th season of MMPR in 1997),, was borrowed from the 20th Super Sentai titled "Gekisou Sentai Carranger" (1996 - 1997). .....And it Continues until the latest one (for now), which is..... => Power Rangers Dino Fury (2021 - 2023), which was borrowed from the 43rd Super Sentai titled "Kishiryu Sentai Ryusoulger" (2019 - 2020). And "Power Rangers Cosmic Fury" (2023) (The third season of Dino Fury) will still borrowing ""Kishiryu Sentai Ryusoulger" while will carrying elements from the 41st Super Sentai titled "Uchu Sentai Kyuranger" (2017 - 2018). (long text below) ok so basically Kamen Rider is a franchise that started in 1971 when Toei Company decided to create a tv show based on Shotaro Ishinomori's Skull Man manga. Sadly he passed away in 1998 but the franchise is still alive Most of them work alone, use a belt to transform, ride a motorcycle and are based on a grasshopper, although over time this has all expanded they fight evil organizations that most of the time are the ones who gave them their powers but they decide to use it to help human race. Oh and in the early seasons these organizations turns them into cyborgs

I know a good chunk of the franchise had insect heroes at the start, but I hate how the press generically assumes that’s it. Currently we have a gunslinger Fox inspired by Fortnite and heaven only knows who the next guy is gonna be themed after, given we have had a clock god, hot wheels cops and medal powered chimera animal man as examples prior to that. Oh and a lizard man who mutilates his enemies with his teeth and claws but we don’t discuss that one in public or the PTA Karens will freak
