I think the show was slowly moving towards redeeming him, even the ending of this episode gave us a glimpse into it. He is projecting his own insecurities onto Mao Mao, trying to show that said insecurities don't matter to him, which is probably the only thing that Mao Mao shares in common with his dad: They both have hard time admitting personal issues they have.

Unbeknowest to both of them, Shin Mao's parenting and his only gift being Geraldine allowed Mao Mao to train without the suits or enhancements his sisters and father had, making him stronger than his dad by sheer strength alone without assistance(except Cobblers)

I'm pretty sure that the whole cobbler incident was a combination of sugar rush with a realisation he is his own hero, and cannot follow the code that actively makes him miserable, and in that moment, he didn't feel the whole world's weight on his shoulders, chained by the excpectations. He is not like his sisters (granted, we will never see the whole picture, damn you CN for dropping the potentially new popular show, but given what little we've seen of them and that Mao Mao only describes them by the weapons they possess, the impact they had is only providing an ideal to strive towards, rather than being actual relatives). Though i do believe that in terms of raw strenght, the only one who could match Mao Mao is probably buff sister. I was hoping that if the show did continue, there was a resolution similar to the one in this episode, only that it was achieved through combat between siblings.

0:56 i do wish we could get a 2nd pov of what living in the mao houshold is like cause in mm memories he always paints the rest of the family as having fun without him like here, but i wonder if thats just him looking at ot with rose tinted glasses, i mean shin's standards had to have been applied to the rest of his daughters right?
