No one should have to grind that much for a single extra boss fight...but then again, there was always Hitoshura/Demifiend in Digital Devil Saga 1, where a single bad roll of the dice, even with maxed out characters and having planned out the battle before hand, you'd still lose in a single turn.

I've seen skill setups that are quite interesting, but exclusive to overclocked: Commands: A Ma-Dyne skill, Holy Dance, and Cursed Dance Passives: Extra One, Extra Charge, and Extra Savings. Auto: Blitzkrieg or Magic Yin

(continuing) The third phase is the hardest. You will want to absorb physicals now (because he reflects them in this phase) as well as have lightning elemental absorption. Physical attacks, even piercing, will no longer work so your best way of attacking is Holy Dance spam. Have your lv. 99 demons with good magic here. Tyrants are great here as they delay the boss's turns, postponing his destructive target-all magic. You will always want as many ways to restore MP as you can.

If you drop his HP to 0 he automatically goes next despite the turn order, the the Decarabia and Abbadon automatically appear and he uses Magidoladyne all at once. At least that's how it is on the 3DS version.

@RPGGUY2500 Yeah, I used this same stage for levelling. Basically, a party including the MC, a Vile (to actually be able to attack the foes with the attack range of 3) and a Tyrant for MP recovery, with some way of avoiding physicals/fire/ice, keeping Lucifer in his first phase. Everybody else I kept in the reserves with the Watchful ability on, and it didn't take very long until I had everybody I wanted at lv. 99.

There is no such thing as the 8th day in the original Devil Survivor for the Nintendo DS. What you say may or may not apply to the 3DS remake, which I have no familiarity with, but you're definitely wrong on all accounts with your accusations as regards the original game. Victory Cry is cracked from Belberith in Atsuro's and Naoya's paths. Magic Yin is also available on Naoya's, and ALL skills carry over to NG+ files, not just attacks. Please refrain from spreading any more misinformation.

@RathalosAssassin MC was supposed to be one of the two mage lead teams, I just messed up the custom growth by like 1 or 2 points which deprived him of the chance of equipping one of the skills, so I switched him to repelling the monsters that gather around you (an encounter with whom is inevitable if you're not abusing the Recarm trick).

@sortofkindamaybe The monsters are good enough. Consider levelling up the underlevelled ones because levels often have greater prominence than stats. For the first phase, you want to attack with piercing physical attacks and reflect physicals back. For the second phase, either absorbing or reflecting physicals works for defence, it's your choice if you want more survival or more damage to bounce right back on the boss. (continued)

Oh nevermind, it's one of the people who commented. Anyway, Megido is inferior to Holy Dance when it comes to hitting Lucifer because while a single Holy Dance hit is weaker you can land 2 or sometimes 3 on the same enemy. However, the best way to damage him in the first two phases is to have Pierce, possibly Phys Jump, and the passive abilities that doubles all physicals / makes them critical.

I did this with all my demons around level 90. Tamers were lvl 99. My party was... MC, Bishamonten, Loki Mari, Komoku, Asura Yuzu, Garuda, Remiel Amane, Nyarlanthotep, Amaterasu Was on law route but haven't completed it at that time so I didn't have access to Metatron. Was a little tough since Loki was my only tyrant but I managed to do it.

Bishamon didn't have Pierce so the attack would have done poor damage, so I didn't bother. If his HP drops to zero, he enters his second phase anyway. Not sure if there are any minor (if any) differences if you end the first phase that way, it's been a while since I recorded this.

Not too hard on Gin's route. Just make sure you see the event where Midori is talking to Jack Frost, save Black Frost and make sure you still have Midori, and Amane will join you in Gin and her own paths. She's REALLY helpful in the first Skirmish against 2nd Form Babel (Awakening+Magic Yin+Elec Amp+Elec Dance)

Anyways you did a good job, I never understood how your supposed to level that fast until I learned how to get exp from this fight then escape but I got bored before getting back to fight lucy so that sucked. Not to sound elitist or anything, but it seems like Lucifer is infinietly harder in overclocked. He spams Megidolaon, and he does a little more than twice the damage. You're attacks also seem to do atleast three times the damge they do in overclocked.

I know I'm probably gonna catch a lot of flak for this, but I find it kind of hilarious Alice may have likely been a harder boss fight in the sequel. The Lord of Hell bested in terms of superboss difficulty by an undead girl and her two "uncles"...

@SirFuzzi Any humans work, just grind their levels up and give them (and especially their demons) the best skills. Healing, reviving, Holy Dance, you'll need all of that. The more Tyrants, the better, too. Also copy my absorption setup so that the elemental damage doesn't hurt you too much.

@sortofkindamaybe Dunno who that person is and what they did, but you can always retreat from this mission. That's how I trained all my monsters and characters. Have a party that can handle all the normal encounters on the map (must have fight range of 3, otherwise you won't be able to fight back and you'll keep being delayed). Give Watchful to all your characters (by fusing together Mitamas) who will be gaining levels and fight with the same party that disposes of things quicker.

Whoa. So you can retreat from this fight...! GLORIOUS! I, TOO, SHALL SEIZE LUCIFER! I'll dig up my Devil Survivor and do it to it. I was grinding free battles too, but my does it get tedious. Two questions: One, I'm on Naoya's route. Is this fight viable using Naoya, Kaido and Mari? Two, are there any demons that are absolutely required? If it's necessary I'll post my setup but suffice it to say what doesn't use Holy Dance typically heals. (which is the 3 non-MC leaders.)

I can answer your first question. Yes, you can fight againts lucifer On Naoya route. Actually, Im using Naoya, Mari and black frost in my team.

No. The experience is the same, and your level resets with every play. So, while you may have a level 80 Metatron, you'd be level 1. XD

did you read what i type i said amane has victory cry just deamons can have victory cry your character has magic yin which can be obtain in the 8th (amanes route) and 7th day (naoyas route) you cant have that ability at the time been even if it is a game + skills cant be past (just the attack skills that can be put on deamons over time) i know that lucifer is one of the 5 extra bosses i have play the damn game the point is that you are a cheater
