Unfortunately, from what I could tell the previously unreleased tracks featured on the "Rare Soundtrack" appear to be compressed like their in-game counterparts which is quite odd seeing as the two previous soundtrack releases were uncompressed. This leads me to believe that the original files may have been lost. Strangely two of the new tracks appear to feature some sound effects in them, those being the short ambient track that plays when you ascend to face Kagatsuchi and the very end of the pre-Lucifer battle BGM which they included despite it already being featured on the Maniax soundtrack. I also noticed that the transition to the "Lord of the Netherworld" segment of the latter song was far more abrupt as well. It's nice that they released more of the soundtrack, but I can't help, but feel a bit disappointed.

@@BlazingAbyss Yeah I've since listened to it. Modern Atlus just keeps disappointing. The files were probably lost, in which case this seems like a cash grab. At least the OST was reprinted.

​@@Michael-gi7nx Indeed, it makes me curious to know how sequenced music works on PS2 games, I know that with older consoles such as the NES you could use updated soundfonts to potentially make the audio sound better than it did in-game, but I have no idea if something similar can be done with PS2 games that use sequenced audio instead of streamed audio. If so then there's no excuse for the compressed audio on the Rare Soundtrack release. Apparently they're going to be including the Rare tracks and piano tracks on the new Nocturne soundtrack release (which also features the previous two albums) so maybe there's a chance that they'll fix it for that release, but sadly, I'm highly doubting that they will.

@@BlazingAbyss I haven't looked too much into Nocturne's soundbanks. There's a PS2 soundbank replacement on GitHub but I haven't tried it. I don't remember if the psf2 files themselves sound compressed when played with any of the various programs like VGMStream. I would compare the CD release to the psf2 rips. I'll do that later if I remember, but I'm not expecting anything.

@@Michael-gi7nx I recently noticed that "Upper Tower" from the Rare Soundtrack is just the track "Rescue" under a different title (though it sounds like some of the piano notes might have some added reverb,) seriously did they just not look over what they were putting on the new CD? It's bad enough that it's compressed, but so far I've noticed at least two redundant tracks and one that was basically just the sound effects from a short cutscene. looks like "Kabukicho Prison" is just "Kabukicho" under a slightly different title as well.

Thanks for uploading this! Realistically I was never going to get around to getting them all uploaded, even if that was original ambition. So I'm glad you did! I noticed you linked me in the description, but it really should be the other way around. So I updated the descriptions for my videos as well! Also, Unseen Vortex is great! I think I've seen the prototype video before, but I sure didn't remember the music. The song took me by surprise because I didn't remember it being on the disc and was confused where it came from at first. The track reminds me of Meguro's work in Maken Shao. I mean, it wouldn't be out place at all on that OST!

Hi 3 year old comment, I am here to answer your query: probably because of the unused negotiation system that had a screen and meters and stuff, removed from the final game in favor of the simpler system in the final release. The old talk theme was probably a placeholder, since SMT 1, 2, 4, and SJ have talk music when talking. xJeePx21, thanks so much for uploading this! If there's one thing that bothered me about Nocturne it's that I never found a complete OST! Anyway, at 01:07:36 the world map battle song quality keeps changing for the worse when the guitar solo comes in. This isn't the case in normal battle, and city battle. The OST would be PERFECT if that was fixed. If you have a link to a version of that medley with better sound quality I would be endlessly thankful to you! Everything else is AMAZING! Thanks!

You're welcome! Unfortunately, I think nothing can be done to improve the sound quality of the Overworld Battle theme guitar solos. I tried tweaking clear rips of guitar solos, but they sound out of sync with the main track, and when I tried to apply filters to the in-game recordings I used in the mix, they sounded even worse than in the final version.

Yes. IIRC, you need to have Orthrus or Cerberus in your party and wait for New Moon before you enter the Cathedral of Shadows to hear it.
