Thanks for the upload. The Fiends are some of the most amazing bosses in recent JRPG history. I liked the Book of Revelations theme on them, and the settings were always pretty amazing. The fight with the Trumpeter still haunts me.

I think I overprepared for Matador, because I heard so much that he would be impossibly difficult. Instead, I beat his ass so hard he never had chance to use Andalucia. Dark Might + buffs = many press turns for big numbers. I'm a little disappointed... The atmosphere of the fight was amazing though, and I can imagine he really is the Grim Reaper of a lot of players, the way he pops out of nowhere like that. I guess I'll go through the rest of the game totally blind... should be fun :)

Matador is supposed to be the boss that teaches you "if you don't take time out of your schedule build a team for the boss that's up ahead, said boss will grind you into the dirt". The reason Matador is infamous in this regard is that he comes out of NOWHERE if you're not using a guide, so you didn't know you needed to have your anti-Boss team ready yet

TylightDark The Maniax version IS the one with Dante (and the Amala Labyrinth, etc). They released another version of the Maniax version with Raidou in it as a bonus when buying one of the Raidou games. As far as I know, it's still the same Maniax version... but with Raidou, instead.

AusSP Yeah, when Atlus got around to localizing this game, Maniax edition was already out, so they translated that version and just omitted Maniax from the title, the same thing happen in the PAL region regarding Final Fantasy X, the International version came out before the PAL region got the normal version, so Square just did some extra translation work and released that version in Europe with International omitted, the Maniax Edition of SMT III with Raidou in it is called the Maniax Chronicle Edition.

The hardest fiend on my first play through was Hell Biker just because I was a low level at that point. So after enough grinding and getting two demons that one could null fire and the other for wind I won. Basically after that the fiend battles became easier (though some took a second try after learning patterns and what not). I also actually fused Daisoujou as soon as I hit 37 and used him to the end. Got to love Prayer and Meditation, those are the reason I used him for that long.

@jackstone112 Definately. To be honest, its like they took a quick glance at the game and thought "oh ... lucifer's in it. and he's "calling" the player to his path. Lets call it Lucifer's call!", all the while failing to realise that not only is following lucifer only ONE path, the hardest path, but in calling it that they're kind of spoiling the fact that yeah, Lucifer's that guy telling you what to do. Nocturne fits the whole game without spoiling anything.

La Nausée I'd agree with that, I think that's because Nocturne has a more consistent melody and bass, whereas SMT4's is all over the place. I mean in the SMT4 version there's what sound like screams, gasps and rattling noises in the background, chilling string sections, and those chimes at the beginning which sound like death. Nocturne is more subtle and atmospheric.

Everybody dunkin' on Matador, but in my opinion, he's actually a good wake-up call. He appears early enough in the game, he teaches the importance of the most basic yet most important rule of MegaTen, and he appears early enough with enough foreshadowing that he doesn't completely blindside you. Grinding and strength/weakness match-ups might have gotten you to the endgame in Pokémon, but this ain't Pokémon. It's MegaTen, and it will bite off your head and mount it on a pike if you don't act like your life's on the line every time you walk into a new dungeon.

yes , magic and status boost in SMTN was very dependable and cannot be played without it. It was hard and in beginning of the game, we didnt got a chance to find many strong spells ans caster.

People say luck is worthless in rpg's but the irony is luck helps you crit a lot more and also makes it to where you dont take critical hits so luck is a good stat to have sometimes.

My end game team from Fourth Kalpa onward was Harlot, Black Frost and Daisoujou. The game became easy mode once I got those three together. All three with Debilitate and Prayer was ridiculous.

Pretty much and in some cases in other games luck also affects other things as well but it depends on the game your playing, still luck if utilized properly is fun to use like a lot of luck and str makes you a critical frenzy person and in some games that supports critical magic dmg you can pair luck and magic stats together for critical mage esk builds.

@pittlenutz A nice strategy I found for Trumpeter is this: bring a low level demon (like Kodama or Hua Po) so that when he does the insta-kill it will kill that weak demon. then revive it but don't re-summon it until he will do insta-kill again and re-summon it (still with 1 HP) the turn before he does the insta-kill.

I found it by using Gamestop's Store Locator where you put in your address and it tells you where the nearest copy of the game is. For me the nearest store that had it was only about a 20 minute drive away.

I actually bought a ps2 again just to play this, i got this and a few other "treasured" ps1 & 2 titles, funny thing was when i managed to find my old mem card i found my "lucifer's Call" saves. I Immedieatly started playing my PT2 with the compendium alrdy FULL. I'll be haviung fun for the next month. I Also Agree Daisoujou is the best "Fiend" To have, if i remember, he can fully heal you party removes afflictions steal boss MP and his spl casting is 2nd to queen mab

That is true enough. Last time I fought him though I was so over-prepared that it wasn't even funny. I have a habit of ending up doing things like that at times. An example would be what I did against Beelzebub's human form in Digital Devil Saga. :P

@Arashile Yeah. The game starts off fairly easy and a few enemies are annoying, then Matador pops up out of nowhere and kicks your ass hard if you don't know what you're doing. He serves as a pop quiz that tells you that buffs and debuffs are important, and typings can make or break a fight.

Matador Taunt; Flauros War Cry, Harlot Makakaja Repeat Red Capote, Tarukaja, Harlot's Beast Roar signature Andalucia, Death bound, Attack Meanwhile demifiend is either healing or focusing and throwing out Freikugel. And then thor for immediate backup. Also, I had a badass succubus and Scathach. Had I finished Hard Mode (cycle 2), I may have ended up with a level 99 Succubus as my ultimate demon. Dat Life drain + Dismal Tune

It does sound like a mix of Alice from Imagine and SMT II before fighting Lucifer. :) Well it is MOSTLY composed of that Lucifer part but the Alice part i'm not so sure xD.

I never found Lucifer all that hard (yeah, he weren't easy, but I never died on him) But I did get a lot of critical hits and another one of my demons had Pierce, so I had 2 major damage dealers, a healer/buffer and a de-buffer. Getting more turns in the fight helped a lot, I think it was my high luck (fie on people who say luck is worthless, saved me constantly)

the game overall was badass when it came out. When it did I was in job corps in 2003. for me fighting lucifer is a chore in its own since i went the demon route. I may have to start the game all over again since i didn't know that u needed the move frukigel( if i spelled it right) to beat him. can anyone tell me if its the game or the system but it takes a while for the characters to show on screen but the music plays right away usually but if i open the tray and close it the game goes better

Kagutsuchi was literally a JOKE boss. I just focused and kajad a little and smacked the guy around for 2 or 3k every round and only needed to heal every so often, usually the round he -skipped- to talk to me about nothing and just let me beat his ass into the ground. And the crits got me like 5 or 6 turns a round so I just beat him down faster than he could cope with it. Flauros + Harlot/Uriel + Matador/Thor = ass whipping

but on another note besides my game not reading fast enough. I would say the hardest fight out of all the bosses was probly the Moire Sisters. Trumpeter for me was a little tough he wiped me out once and then I beat him the second time around after i learned his pattern of healing and instant KO. on my game i used Daisouju to heal and he was usually the one lowest on HP when the trumpeter healed and was always had full hp when the trumpeter instant ko'ed

Trumpeter was easy for me o_O... My strategy - First Turn - MC, Taunt Second Turn - Black Frost, Taunt Third TurnDaisojou - Dekaja Fourth Turn - Sui-Ki (had himm accidently in party) - Glacial Blast - 1k damage from 2 hits. His turn - Mazandyne, Maziodyne - everyone alive First turn - MC - Focus Second Turn - Black Frost Prominence - 1 k Third Turn - Daisoujou Prayer Fourt Turn - Glacial Blast - 1k He used some madyne again First turn - Divine shot for 1500 etc Repeated 3 or 4 times and he died.

@bahamuta lol nah. I found a preowned copy at a Gamestop for $26 a little over a week ago. I just finished the 3rd Kalpa in the Labyrinth of Amala (the furthest I'd ever gotten in the Labyrinth, PERIOD). I tore Dante apart at the end too :D My Party was my MC, Daisoujou, Matador, and Angel (trust me, she's alot better than your average Angel). Both Daisoujou and Matador could drain HP and MP from enemies, Angel had Dia, and I had tons of items stocked up for my MC to use when necessary.
