I truly believe the technique Shirakawa sensei showed is basis of how to use Aikido for combat. My original sensei made us practice for a few minutes at the end of every class. Later in my life when I got a job that forced me to fight psychotic, drunk, or drugged patients, the feeling of the Aikiage, was how I got whatever technique I was using to work against someone resisting me.
A beautiful exhibition of the art of Akido. AND a great teacher. Thank you for posting. I have been a study of Kenpo karate from 1966, and started studying Aikido in the early 80s. Both have taught me that you can blend high impact martial arts with the art of knowing body physics to control any situation. Outside of the Dojo, I have never lost a confrontation...thank you for a very valuable learning experience...
Thank you guys you are wonderful ! Aikido is beautiful wish i could travel to Japan and be your humble student even if that would be a short time it is my dream
I love this material sensei! It looks like it is fake and impossible but it is in fact a harmonious fluid motion that creates a mysterious result for anyone who actually tries to grab an aikidoka. Perhaps the only remaining skepticism would be "nobody grabs you like that", so you can get someone very strong and tell them to grab you however they want and you demonstrate the technique.
